My brother sent me this link:

This site changes frequently so you need to get there soon. I will be in the big Apple in a couple of weeks. If any of you Yanks have a link to good arcades, let me know and I'll scope them out.

Take the train and go to Richie Knucklez arcade. Also in a couple of weeks High Scores Arcade in Burlington, NJ is having a tournament as well.

Man, looks like the kind of place you'd find Polybius. Almost as awesomely creepy as that one arcade in Japan made to look like an abandoned Chinese township.

I work in Midtown Manhattan and could meet you there

Just let me know date and time....
Would be fun to do a real China town dinner - Peking Duck anyone? followed up with some serious Arcade time.

Hmm I like Mott St. Am particularly fond of WoHop for food, but haven't been there in a couple of years. WoHop Downstairs has much better food..

But next time I in the city, I know where I heading..

I have been playing there since the early 1980's....unfortunately my recent trip over New Years showed me that it has gone to every possible version of Street Fighter, inclusive of SFIV LAN set-up, and DDR.....My trip to Barcade reminded me more of what this place meant to me as I was growing up. Definitely worth checking out as it is a piece of NYC Arcade History!!

I was there not too long ago and 1up is right, TONS of fighter junkies there. regardless, it's great to see the place still alive and kicking.

You should've seen this place in the early 90s when you could smoke. There would be a layer about 2 feet talk of smoke. The layout is, as you walk in the floor dips down. It's an L shape. The classics are in the front row. The photos are pretty up to date. But most games look beat. Ms Pacman looks so nice but it's not. They have a beat the hell SSGT. They used to have two sets. Nobody plays Time crissis 3 or 4 I think. DDR gets alot of play. People think it's an excersize machine. Lots of fighting games. No MK. SF machines like you wouldn't believe. lots of Neo Geos. It's worth a look. they open around noon. sometimes later. Bunch of high school kids run the place. I haven't seen the manager in a long time. They almost closed the place.

yes they have their own tokens. There is a dragon on it.

well sad news, theres a sign on the door saying they might not be around after this month.. there eviction notice says the 23rd

They've been add it with the landlord for awhile now. Last year there was a huge for rent sign. I wonder who owns those games.

If you think Chinatown Fair looks like a dump,
go visit Eight on the Break in Dunellen, NJ
"the oldest, continually operated arcade in the
united states" (unverified)

It's most likely a case of the operator also owns
the building, so costs are low. There's no way
they bring in enough revenue to justify renting
3K-5K Sq.Ft storefronts on busy streets.

From what I know they're not going anywhere any time soon.

I swung by there Monday and didn't see any sign, so I inquired and was told that it was just a rumor.

Years ago I acquired the understanding that when it comes time to re-new the lease they take the attitude that if they have to go then they have to go when the property owner wants to raise the rent too high. It's kind of a who blinks first scenario. :)

They do that dance every few years, so it's nothing new.
