i just a new crane motor for my last action hero machine.the problem im having is im not getting anough swing out of motor to touch both switchs cant get it to touch even one.i did some serious bending out with them.is there any other adjustments

Firt of all, where did you get a new motor??? Not that I need one, but it would be nice to know.

As far as adusting the travel, I don't know if the cam underneath the motor can be adjusted or not. I am not home at this time, but will look into it when I get home.

Have you beaten the 1.7 mil High Score? I haven't come close to that yet...

i got motor from bay area admusment.i havent even played it i had some problems crane not working, flippers not working, shaker motor not working.had to put all new fuse holder in power supply and driver board and finally rebuild the magnet board.so some day here soon i will get to enjoy it.

Sorry for the HUGE bump, but I'm having the same problem.

I got a replacement motor/gearbox from BAA and the crane won't swing all the way from side to side.

Anyone else had this problem? Is there something I can do?

Thanks!!!

You will have to loosen the bolt that holds the crane to the motor shaft and adjust it to where the crane arm makes switch contact at the end of travel in that direction.

Thanks but I tried that. I took the crane right off, turned on the motor until it travelled to one end and stopped (right before it reverses direction) and chucked the crane on so it activated the switch.

When it moves back the other way, though, it doesn't make it to the other switch before stopping and reversing direction

It's as if there's not enough travel in this mechanism...

Guys - I fixed it.

I managed to find the old linkages from my old gearbox (I chucked the rest because it was trashed) and compared the linkage from the old gearbox output to the new.

What do you know - the old one is a whopping 0.035" further between the hole centres.

I put the old linkage in and hey presto - the damned thing works now.

Bloody hell. I wonder if these ones that BAA stocks have been assembled with incorrect parts? In my research I've learned that the Thing motor in TAF has the same type of gearbox and linkages along with Apollo13.

I've notified BAA of this.

Time to bump this thread again :)

I have a Last Action Hero game and my crane has been acting up as well. Same problem you describe except mine used to work fine and I haven't changed the motor or anything.

The motor still works fine, and the crane will move from side to side, but always seems to stop short of one side or the other, before it gets to a switch. I've tried loosening the crane screw and moving it on the post to try to get it to a good position where it will get to both ends but it's not working.
When I test the crane out in diagnostic mode, it will go fully to either end with no problem, just not during a game.

Any suggestions? Do I simply not have it in the correct position?

Any chance my electric motor is just weak and can't make it across in the time given by the software?

I'm going to keep tinkering but it's starting to get the best of me, lol. I'd appreciate any input, thanks.

Just throwing this out there. I replaced my bridge rectifiers (all except the one for lights) and my crane started working perfectly again, making it from side to side again every time. I didn't expect it to happen, was just a happy coincidence from fixing another problem.

I verified this fix....thank you Canadiangamer. No amount of crane adjustment was working for me, this cured it.

My pleasure. Just to clarify, the bridge rectifier to replace is DB1 on the power supply board. Here's what you need, quote...

Replacement Bridges and Diodes.
All the stock bridges installed in DataEast/Sega games are 35 amps 200 volts with lug (not wire) terminals. The original part number will be something like "MB3502" or "MB352" (signifying 35 amps at 200 volts). A replacement bridge can be any voltage or amp value at that rating, or higher. Since the cost is usually no different, buy 35 amps 400 volt replacement bridges with lug terminals. These are available from Competivitive Products Corp (800-562-7283). Radio Shack even sells 35 amp bridges at 50 volts (which isn't enough voltage). But if you look at the bridge inside the Radio Shack package, often then are labeled 3502 or 352 (35 amps 200 volts), and not 50 volts. Always buy only the labeled bridges from Radio Shack. Sometimes these "35 amp" bridges are labeled 1001W (10 amp 100 volts!). Obviously put that one back and grab another!
