I have a Space Ace machine that I am looking to get up and running.
Everything appears to be there however it does not have the original Laserdisc player.
I have a replacement laserdisc player that came with it - but I have no idea what I am missing to make this Laserdisc player work with the machine.

Does anyone know what it will take to get this working?

The Laserdisc player is a Pioneer Laservision Player LD-V2200

I don't know a lot about laser games either but I would start with the basics. Does the player work period? If not obviously you would have an issue there. Does this model player work with the game you want to use it with? If not is there an adapter/card to allow it to work?

Here's a list of pioneer laser disc players and compatability. May have missed it but I dont see the LD-V2200 on the list. It's possible it may not work for a laser disc game.

First...

flynn,

First of all...Space Ace won't work with that particular laserdisc player without a LaseCon card...check here: http://www.wood1st.com/LaserCon/
I don't know if he sells them anymore...

Otherwise you will need one of the COMPATIBLE laserdisc players. Here is the page at Dragon's Lair Project that shows which laserdisc players work: http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/pages/sa.asp

You will also need the Interface cable that runs from the main pcb board to the back of the laserdisc player. You can make one yourself if you need too. I think there is instructions on how to do it somewhere on the 'net

Of course you will need the laserdisc itself, a Space Ace or Dragon's Lair control panel, and a Space Ace annunciator board if you want to choose your "level" when yo start the game (Cadet, Captain, or Ace...I believe..been a while ..lol)

You will also need an original power supply OR one that has been built for the machine. You can use a switching power supply..you have to hack into it a bit though..

The wiring harness is a BITCH to make (in my opinion)...so try to find one...

You also will need a Scoreboard and scoreboard cable (which you can also make, if needed). I see the scoreboards on Ebay once in a while...there is one at QuarterArcade.com right now...plus some other parts there..check them..

Hope that helps...Good Luck!! Let me know if you have other questions!

Lasercon

Shaun still has them but you have to contact him first as he takes preorders then ships them. I bought 2 from him and they work great.

Thank you for all the good information...

The cabinet seems to be complete otherwise... the board, monitor, power supply etc - its all there. Cabinet powers up and beeps upon start up. The scoreboard also lights up.

Not sure what happened to the original laserdisc player but this replacement came with the machine when I got it. It also has the disc. So I just need to make all this work together now.

I did get a msg from Shaun so I think I am in good hands...

Space Ace

Good luck with it, also try dragons lair project. There are some good peeps on that site that should be able to help you out as well.

Shaun is awesome to work with, got my dragon's lair going among my million questions and even game me a switch to choose from arcade or enhanced roms. Great guy!
