Hey guys- I'm struggling to find a local or online vendor who has a wide selection of colors for vertical panels. Specifically I'm looking for a shade of blue that matches the Big Blue Street Fighter 2 Champion cabs. Lowes has a good shade, but only for countertop laminate, not vertical. And I'm hoping to not have to buy oversized T-molding that I have to trim.

I'm stuck. Help!

Thanks guys

Look at Wilsonart, they have standard and vertical grade laminate, plenty to choose from and can send small samples. Double check that the color you want comes in vertical grade.

Good luck!

That's actually the brand I ordered at lowes, but cancelled due to being countertop grade. Cabinetmaker Warehouse had the same color in vertical grade. Shipping was free but the panels were a bit more money. Went ahead and ordered anyway.

Thanks!

I order all my Wilsonart laminate from Home Depot. It's vertical grade (the really thin stuff) and I get the kind with adhesive already on the back which costs more but is a lot easier to install. You have to special order it at the kitchen design desk. Once they place the order it takes 2 weeks usually.

Good to know thanks. Does price vary a lot by color or are you paying a standard price per panel?

How much more are you paying for the kind with the adhesive?

This place is in N. Hollywood, CA. Not sure if they'll drop ship but it's worth a shot.

Their little showroom has like 10,000 samples. I got my Baby Pac-Man laminate there. Canada-only shade of yellow for some reason and they were still able to get it. Nobody else could for anywhere near their price.

I got the impression they were significantly more expensive than ordering online elsewhere? The one time I ordered laminate it was from HD though.

Do you know if it's more cost effective to order multiple sheets?

I need a few sheets of vertical grade, black.

Nobody makes the capcom blue you're looking for. Many have been posting regarding this same this to no avail. That's why many just end up painting the cabs that color over a white or black laminated cab. I don't recommend it but it's all that's available.

Wilsonart lapis blue gets me close enough

I'm not sure why oversized molding is such an issue with the counter top grade laminate.

You can get a trimmer from Amazon with prime shipping:

Quad Trimmer With Carbon Steel Blades https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WULWX2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wBy8AbRPYZDYK

I can find white and black wilsonart in stock at my local home depot for $44 a sheet in countertop thickness which is much less prone to breaking during install. Most of the cabs I work on have some swelling from moisture any way, and standard 3/4" molding doesn't fit perfectly everywhere, especially near the bottom. So buying 7/8" and trimming to fit works best.

I can understand if its a nintendo cab, and you purchased some repro flat molding that you'd want to go with thin vertical grade laminate, but for other cab types I dont mind trimming.

One of the prominent reviews for this says it scratches the surface it uses for a guide (arcade side art), and says to avoid.

Yes, anything you rub on a surface can mar it, whether that is the base of a palm router, or base of a skill saw when ripping or cutting a sheet of melamine, or this tool. You should place a strip of blue painters tape over the area it will rub against.

Also, its best to run the molding along the back or a straight portion on the top, and trim it there, then remove the trimmed part, place the next untrimmed part on, and continue until the whole strip is trimmed, then you can install it fully trimmed. This helps to trim it in a non obvious area and also helps to avoid trying to trim it in on curved sections or corners.

Thanks! I forgot about that "small" detail. Makes that review a complete non-issue.
