I've used laminate for my first restore, a Zaxxon and was really pleased with the look. The only problem I had with it was the additional thickness it added. The stuff I got was from Home Depot that was available on the floor. Is there a thinner alternative? I am re-doing a Defender into a Multi-Williams and want to use laminate.

laminate

I am guessing you got countertop style laminate, but what you need is vertical cabinet grade laminate. It's very thin (1/32 or even 1/64") and durable once it is applied. It comes in 4x8 sheets and if you have a local cabinet supply store it will be about $35.

I did not know there was thinner laminates out there. I'll have to check to see in my area for a supplier. Thanks

Yea I also used the thicker stuff in stock at Home Depot which actually helped strengthen all my bondo work on the corners, lol. I didn't mind the thickness even with having to order wider t-molding and shaving it down with a brand new and very sharp chisel after it was installed onto the game. I also didn't have a choice as I was working outdoors on the patio in the fall with winter coming so I absolutely couldn't look around or wait for special ordered laminate to come in.

Home Depot and Lowes sometimes carry the horizontal grade stuff in stock but the vertical grade is better for games. As mentioned above it is very thin.

I've been using the WilsonArt ReCover which has an adhesive already applied to the back. It's twice as expensive but it's as easy to install as sideart. That stuff is 0.032 inches (about 1/32nd of an inch) including the adhesive. The Formica brand you can sometimes find in Home Depot is going to be 0.045 inches without the adhesive.
