^ pic before I soldered the wires ^
tl;dr
Alien Poker, williams system 6a, in cabinet knocker is pretty tame. More of a light thunk than a knock. Is that normal?
Long blabby version
Hooking up the new knocker coil was the cherry on top of all the work I have done on the Alien Poker. It was the last thing left after weeks of work on this machine. The coil was burned black when I got it. I got the correct replacement coil and replaced the blown transistor with a TIP102. The plunger has the little plastic rod in there, the coil bracket is secured tightly to the cabinet, and it fires when it should.
Some things I guess might be an issue:
I hooked the wires up how the old coil was connected. Being a single coil I guess it would not really matter orientation as long as the diode was installed in the correct direction.
There was a good bit of exposed wire and solder from the old connection and I just kind of mashed it around the lug and added more solder.
maybe the plunger got magnetized when the old coil burnt and it is messing with it.
Seems the plunger does not sit inside the coil much and maybe the firing is not long enough to fully activate it.
Why did they not print anything on the driver board? I used my DMM to find the bad transistor, knew it was Q41 from the manual, but had to find a firepower schematic to confirm I had the correct transistor.
I like nice big quality knockers
