I picked up a LAI Stacker machine last week, red version, and need help with a few issues I'm having with it as redemption machines are not my strong point.

1. Weird buzzing/display issue every minute or so.
In attract mode, things will be going normally, then every minute or so for 5-6 seconds, the speaker will make some very quiet buzzing noises, and the main stacker display as well as the credit/countdown display will show gibberish (random blocks/lines) as this buzzing is happening, everything will then go back to normal.

2. Cannot get into test mode.
Press the test switch behind coin-door....nothing.
Manually connect wires for test switch momentarily....nothing.
Use jumper wires to short out pins for test switch at the board...nothing.
Service switch still works ok.

3. Error 5.
Getting error 5 about the prize sensor. Have lined up the opto/led boards and the error went away. However when a prize goes to dispense, the coil turns 2-3 times then error 5 reappears before the prize drops. Turn the game off and on, and no errors until a prize tries to dispense again. Is this still a matter of alignment or a bad LED or ?

I can probably get a video of these issues put up when I get home from work.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Not sure about 1 and 2 but for the prize sensor open the back door and look at the yellow lights on each side of the prize chute that are on the sensors themselves. See if any are faint or flickering. This could mean a bad sensor itself. You can also call LAI tech support, they are pretty decent.

Thanks, yeah on the left side one does still seem to flicker very slightly. I'll see if it's an adjustment... More likely sensor may have gone bad. They look pretty easy to change though.

I fought the buzzing issue on one of mine. Take a look at power supply, if it has been replaced with a cheap switcher you will get the buzzing. It's been a while since I dealt with it so the details are a bit fuzzy. The cheaper power supplies ( the under $30 ones that everyone uses) maximum current rating on one of the lines (12 volt I think) is very close to what the game draws. Replacing the supply with one of the more expensive switchers ($50) with higher current ratings solved it for me. I had tried different cheap supplies and they noise continued.

I ran mine for a a few months with the cheap supply in a noisy environment and the buzzing appeared to be the only issue.

It has been replaced with a cheap switcher, I was kind of wondering if that or a grounding issue may be the cause. I'll get it replaced and see if that gets rid of the buzzing, thanks for the tip!
