I just got this machine last night and it is having a couple issues which can be expected after moving a game.

First: The game doesn't recognize three of the six balls, but I think this is probably a grounding issue. Can someone refresh my memory on how to text switches in loop to make sure they are grounded or do I have to go into the test menu on game?

Second: The game is spitting two balls into the trough when you start a game. I haven't had this happen before, but I know I saw an answer somewhere, but can't seem to find it!

Third: When I pull the gun trigger I can hear the coil firing to shoot the ball onto the PF, but it is really weak.. I believe this is probably a sleeve issue though.

Also: If anyone has any pictures of the wires inside the cab I would be greatful. I have about 3-4 plugs that are disconnected and I don't see a mate for them so want to make sure something isn't missing!

Too many balls getting pumped into the shooter lane is almost assuredly the shooter lane switch needs adjustment and/or it's bad.

Only recognizing 3 balls issue - I am unfamiliar with the game so if I'll assume you've got trough Opto's. the trough has two Opto's per ball. If one of them is dirty or defective the game won't see that ball. Pull the BOTH Opto boards out and clean the opto lenses with a Q-tip and water or isopropylene alcohol.

You can also shut the light off in the room and look through a camera lense and see if the opto is actually working.

I should mention ball troughs take a MASSIVE beating so over time not only can it cause an opto to fail but to also cause cold solder joints so when you pull the boards carefully inspect them.

Thankfully the trough switches are rollover switches and not optos lol! I'm thinking one of the grounds came off or one of the switches in loop broke, but have to check it out more tonight.

Didn't think of the ball switch for the shooter lane lol. Thanks deadly!

Sounds like you need a manual. Go here:

http://ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1416

And download the manual and schematics. In the manual it will give you step by step instructions on how to go through the switch tests and you can determine which ones are now working. Since the switches are in a matrix, there is no "ground", there is a drive signal and a sense signal arranged in a matrix. if one of the wires is broken you will loose part of that row or column, if a switch is shorted on, then you will have phantom closures.

When a game spits two balls into the shooter lane, it could either be the shooter switch or the trough switches, check them all in the switch test.

If the shooter coil is weak, you could have the wrong coil installed, a binding mechanism, or bad power to the coil, or it could be mis-aligned, and not hitting the pinball squarely.

There are several connectors in these games that are not used. Do not connect them unless you are certain where they go.

Was it really that hard to type "Last Action Hero" in the subject of the freaking thread?

A grounding issue? What would make you think that? The switches are in a matrix. Your problem is most likely with the trough switches. They're optos (IIRC). There should be plenty of info on the web about testing optos but the short version is that you can test the transmit side with a digital camera. You can see the light. The receive side can be checked with a meter.

Also related to your trough switch problem. You could have a wire off effecting a bunch of switches.

Third: When I pull the gun trigger I can hear the coil firing to shoot the ball onto the PF, but it is really weak.. I believe this is probably a sleeve issue though.

I would take the mechanism apart and see if it's dirty. If it is that might be your problem. Could also be a number of other things like a failing driver transistor or bad contact somewhere.

Also: If anyone has any pictures of the wires inside the cab I would be greatful. I have about 3-4 plugs that are disconnected and I don't see a mate for them so want to make sure something isn't missing!

You can download the manual here:

Not sure if there is a schematic there but that's what I would use.

DO you always have to be a dick lindsey? I think it might be a grounding issue because three switches are working and three aren't. They are switches not optos as said before in an earlier post. I looked at the manual for the wire stuff and didn't see what I was looking for and didn't know if someone possibly had pictures of it. This place is becoming rpc lately.

I've got one at home, I can check the wiring for you. There's no opto's in the trough, the switches are probably daisy-chained together. Look for a break between the ones that work and the ones that don't.

I guess taking the time to give you advice on each one of your problems and finding the manual for you is being a dick. If you don't want my advice then I won't waste my time giving it. Good luck with your grounding issue.
