Lack of motivation?

I avoid people who take away the passion i have for these old arcade machines. It explains the get off the lawn kind of attitude i have towards some people. Laughs..

Arcade burn out? Been there done that. I enjoy repairs and playing but on my own terms. What i do is suppose to be fun 1st. It a hobby not a business.

What i find that extends the time i enjoy working on arcade machines between burn outs? Great friends to share what i do.

Hopes this helps..

Now get off my lawn.

Laughs

My technical knowledge of games is adequate, but I fall short on the hands-on aspect of the hobby. With that said, I aim to get lucky by finding working games for short money.
General cleaning of bezels to get dust off is one thing, but things like cigarette burns above the 1 & 2 players buttons on one of my Nintendo cabinets defines character.

Lost interest well over 6 months ago. Haven't touched a game. Sometimes I walk into the arcade room and look around for a couple of minutes and then I walk out and close the door wondering if I'll ever feel like playing or fixing my games again.
Thoughts of selling them all but instead just let them sit and hope that feeling of excitement comes back with time.

Thought you would appreciate this..supposedly came out of a strip club that shut down in the mid 90's. However, so this is somewhat on topic... I have trouble oftentimes staying motivated with particular projects so I usually just hop onto something else. I have lots of different interests and hobbies so to speak so it's kind of easy for me to jump from one thing to the next when I'm feeling a little burnt out on a particular area of my life.

Yup! I have a close friend who likes games enough, but he's really more into being a handyman and is always ready and excited to help me measure, drill holes, plan stuff out, etc, etc. It's always more fun working on stuff with a partner.

And on the other side, I love switching all my games on and watching my friends get excited about playing them at parties. I've become "the one with the arcade games" to some folks. It's pretty gratifying to see all my had work bringing people joy.

As for the topic at hand... All my machines need to be pulled away from the wall for some TLC and maybe a couple adjustments and mods. Maybe one boring day off I'll finally be motivated enough to get around to it.

You are not ALONE... summertime is for the outdoors. If 2020 has shown us anything, it's a……… ENJOY THE OUTDOORS AND KEEP AWAY FROM OTHERS. Ha. I have a TRON THAT has been non working for two years. DK and DKjr AND Popeye that need cap kits ( I have all the materials/tools/knowledge I need) but its a hobby.
AND.... MY crazy climber cabaret is sooooooooo needing a tube swap... but, I'll get to it.

i had a HS English teacher / track coach that said "YA GOTTA WANNA"... actually, he would scream it at our class.. and it's true.. I say it to this day.

take a breath. Know that there are 1000's of people on this site that can and WILL help you.
And when all your games are WORKING, well be able to have all the friends and family we know in our arcades to enjoy.

peace.

This time at home has been weird. Working my job from home means i spend more time working and worrying about work that can't be done. I passed a few arcade projects down the road because i felt like i was getting in over my head too fast with broken games and running out of space to work on them.

I have been able to fix a few things here and there but still don't know nearly as much as id like on monitors. Haven't really found a lot of people locally in Nashville who want to get together and work on stuff (and more so this year with the pandemic). Got real frustrated this year as two games i bought developed monitor problems real quick after getting them home. I've paid to have a few things fixed, but pricing seems to go up every time and its hard when you have a lot of games. Im not set up well for a bench yet and need to work on that i suppose.

Hoping to learn to fix some monitors and install some switchers. Little by little. I like playing the games. I like learning history of games. Fixing them gives me pride when i can figure out and a great deal of frustration when i can't.

I tend to get bored with things and mind wanders, want to do something else, also depression sometimes. I like working on them more than playing I think overall. I even like picking locks for coin doors or backs where the key was lost and wasn't already drilled out. There's nothing more satisfying when you can open a lock without a key

I was going to reply to this thread with a quick witty one liner, but I find I have a lack of motivation to do so...
