Kung fu Master Joystick Directional Issue

Ok. Piggybacking isn't always a reliable test, but if you can get one from a different board, it's worth a shot. If it still doesn't work, I wouldn't necessarily still rule out 2C as being good.
I don't know if I can. I was going to go looking. I've got at least two or three parts boards that are laying around. Surely one of them has this chip socketed but if not, I'm assuming I can buy these at digikey or somewhere?

Post a pic of the chip, or check the label. Schematic says 244. My guess its a 74LS244, but it would be good to confirm. and yeah you can get them at various places. Even APAR

Cool. Which socket should I be buying? I looked at Jameco, but I didn't see the correct one when I searched 'IC socket'.

You could try clipping and jumping legs on 2C to repurpose 1P SW3 input and output (which I assume is unused) for 1P right.

Fuck it, I went to order the chips and the sockets and when I went to check out, they told me the sockets are on backorder. They also told me I had to have them shipped together, so no idea when this stuff will arrive. I was also forced to buy 10 of the sockets so my total bill was just over 20 bucks with no shipping date given. It could be weeks or months till I get this damn game fixed. I guess I should've bought the $120 KFM PCB I saw on Facebook or eBaylast week.

Hey, does anyone have a good desoldering station? I just need this one chip desoldered and I can install the socket and chip myself. I just don't have a good desoldering station. Anyone out there that I could mail this to to disorder that one chip at 2C?

You've been in this hobby long enough. Time to invest in a desoldering gun.

Or if you don't want to spend $300 on a Hakko, spend $20 on a Soldapullt. It will cost you less than shipping one board back and forth to someone.

Well I have an old radio shack desoldering gun with the suction bulb, but I looked at these pins and they are tiny. No way I'm getting that fat metal dick finger around those pins without lifting the traces. Is this solderpult worth it?

How small are the pins?

It isn't the size of the tool. It's how you use it.
