Fairly certain this is in the right place but if not i apologize.
Also if i use the wrong terms for anything please correct me. I won't take offense and would rather learn the terminology.

I came across what i believe is a Kung Fu Master cocktail cab in an antiques shop(of all places) about a week ago.

The owner told me that it did work but the controls were kind of "buggy".
It is in pretty rough shape besides that:
-The glass(is it real or plexi?) is scratched to hell
-I don't recall there being any side art on it(if there ever even was any)
-The "front art" were the joysticks are was heavily worn/torn.
AFAIK the coin mech works, the monitor works and it is otherwise electrically sound. Also it looked like there was no cracks or damage to the casing but i am not 100% sure as it was pushed into a corner.

They only want 100$s for it and i am interested in buying it. The few reasons i have not yet are:
1. I have absolutely know idea how to go about restoring it or more importantly what it would cost.
2. Is it worth 100$s in the condition it is in?
3. and least important in my mind were would i put it.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice :)

Hi

I restore cabinets (my own ones)

A $100 cab is for someone with good cabinet and electrical skills in my opinion.

I think you could end up spending between $500 to $1000 more to get it fixed up, using other peoples skills (Labour / favors etc)

It might be better to buy a $600 - $1100 working cab (in my opinion)

Or buy a cab for mame to fix up, for practice - what have you got to lose - use old PC Parts

:):D

do you want to learn to do repairs? If so, then yes, its a good deal. If your going to have it restored, get out your check book.
KFM is a fun game (at least to me), but not ultra desirable. If its a cocktail (table) and dedicated, its a fairly rare, but still, probably not very desirable- meaning not very valuable. My guess is that its a conversion from another game. Generally, cocktails only have art under the glass top - which is usually tempered glass. You can have another one cut to replace it with.
Far as the controls go, replacing them isn't a big deal. You may need to desolder and resolder wires to the new controls, or just rebuild the ones that are there.
Replacing the control panel overlay isn't hard either, but finding the right art may be. Most likely someome like mamemarquees.com has the file and can print one for you, but a silkscreened repro or NOS art is more desirable.

If i wasn't out of space, i'd never turn down a working hundred dollar game. Chances are, so long as you don't break it, you can always resell it for what you have in it.

Thanks for the info guys :)

I am interested in learning how to do the work myself. I plan on owning Mortal Kombat and possibly other cabs in the future so maybe this will probably be the best and most inexpensive way to start learning.
