I have a kortek kt-2914 that is clicking (like a car turn signal) when it is turned on. When I first powered it up (when I got the cab), it displayed a "No Signal" message on the screen, then started clicking... Now, it just clicks.

I understand that the clicking is from the relay that controls the degausser. If I put my hand on the front of the tube, I get the normal static.

I replaced the Vertical IC (IC201) as recommended in another forum, but no luck.

Any ideas where to go next?

Your HOT is probably bad.

The clicking is not from your degauss circuit, it from your SMPS (switched-mode power supply) on your chassis starting and shutting down over and over. This is call OCP (Over-Current Protection). Your chassis has a short and it's pulling the current too high, so the OCP kicks in and shuts it off so you don't burn everything up....

Before I start pulling those parts... a few items to note:

- I have neck glow
- the monitor has power going to it (normal static on front of monitor)
- the clicking is a relay close to the Degaussing circuit (I will check the schematic today to see where it really is connected to).

Will I get neck glow and static on the monitor if the HOT is bad?

How can I test if the HOT is bad?

Put your meter on diode test and measure between the different legs. If you get a short reading, pull it and check it again. If it's still reading as shorted, replace it...

From reading the thread it sounds more like you are trying to drive the monitor with a bad signal. Unplug the video cable and see if "No signal" comes back on the screen. Some monitors "click" when changing resolution and I'm pretty sure that this Kortek is one of them. FYI, neck glow doesnt mean that you have high voltage on newer monitors. The heater voltage on some monitors is generated by the power supply. If you ahve static then you probably have HV which means your HOT "might" be OK. Not always the case but it could be fine.

Or, you could call Betson. Ray is right, these mointors have issues.

This happens regardless of input. the video cable is not connected. :)

Anyone have contact info for Betson? IE, someone I can call rather than sending an email, randomly calling?

Your going to have to call their New Jersey office. The monitor guy in San Francisco (actually Hayward) is REALLY good with monitors but he's got a super thick Chinese accent so he's hard to understand some times.

You should be able to get a phone number from their website. www.betson.com

I emailed them and got this:

"There are no relay on the chassis. You may send it down to our Hayward, CA office for repair.

Betson
3470 Depot Road
Hayward, CA 94545

Jeanette"

However, on page 30 of the manual, in the parts list, it shows the relay (RL101) and it appears on the schematic too...

I will call the NJ office tomorrow...

Jeanette is in the parts dept in Buena Park, I dont think parts people are fully aware of what makes these things tick.

I would like to see if I can swap the HOT to see if that is the problem. I know that NTE makes a replacement (NTE2533) anyone know the cheapest place to purchase it? It looks like its $40ish, which is a lot to spend "just to see if that's the problem"

Also, Betson will charge me $74.50 per hour + parts (with no estimate as to how long) or sell me a new one for $180.
