Konami's "Beat the Champ"....anyone ever play this?

Over two years ago I purchased a couple of games from a local seller in a package deal. I was really after the Cruis'n USA but the second game I bought was "Beat the Champ" made by Konami around 95 of 96. It's a sports game with events in basketball, baseball, football, bowling, and golf. It's an okay game, but what I've always been curious about is if anyone else has ever played this or seen it. I don't think I've ever seen another one at an auction or for sale. Has anyone else seen this game or at least remembers it? Here's a picture of mine.

Never seen it before. Though, if I did and it was in an original 4P Konami cab, I would convert it to X-Men. :)

Oddly enough the thought of converting it did cross my mind initially, but I had already bought a 6 player X-Men and I didn't have the heart to convert it.

You could convert it to TMNT or Sunset Riders. But converting takes a lot of effort and funds if you don't have the art and parts already.

It seems like a unique game. Keeping it as it is doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Oh yeah I'm definitely keeping it as is. It's actually a fun game but I do need to rebuild the trackballs as they are shot. One of the funniest things about this game is the option setting for "rude announcer" during basketball. Basically it's just a 3 pt shooting contest, but if you turn on the "rude announcer" he will say things like "You suck" or "What a suckin' air ball" anytime you miss a shot. None of the other games have that rude announcer setting.

Couldn't help but bump this one again after noticing a fellow KLOV member has a pcb of this game. The game also received some play at my New Year's party and has me wondering about it again. I noticed the buttons don't have any counter sinking for the nuts so they just barely have enough room to tighten down and hold the button in place. I'm just surprised there's little to no info on this thing.

wasnt very common. ill through it in my golden tee once in awhile but other than that it doesnt get much play. i thought they were only conversion kits, but yours looks factory... so maybe they weren't all kits. theres something about trying to throw a football with a trackball that isnt..well right.

Yeah I think mine is factory. It's definitely a Konami style cabinet and it looks very similar to the flyer cab other than the trackball has exposed plates on that one. Mine is the only one I've ever seen. Seems like they didn't make too many of them for sure.

you should take some pics and upload them to klov for it. it looks pretty good. oh and btw, simpsons bowling would also work in that cab, or on the same board set.

Yeah I've been meaning to take some better pics or at least submit the ones I have to KLOV. That's also cool to know about Simpsons Bowling. :)
