I have a few TP board sets, incl one bootleg, and my bootleg board (part of a two board set like the Konami set except without the custom ics) is missing the short +5v/Gnd lead & connector (a white two pin plug). that is soldered to the CPU board between the letters F&G for the two pin 5v power header on the sound/edge connector board (the video board is also missing the two pin header to match the lead/plug)

Anyone know what type of 2 pin plug/header is used ? it's not .156 pitch as i checked (forgot to measure it though DOH) and i am searching bob roberts/digikey but not having much luck so far...

Cheers!

I don't know the answer to the pin/header size question off the top of my head... BUT, the bootleg boards sometimes have wider interconnect cables that have additional pins to carry power to the main board.

in this instance the video board is konami in all but name - if you laid them one atop the other the only diffs are:
1. no Konami label
2. rounded corners on pcb traces - hence the two pin header on the video (upper) board is the same!
3. 50 pin IDC headers for the ribbon connector rather than 40 pin IDC.
(i made a 50 to 40 pin lead by tearing back 4 wires one side, 6 on the other, then pressed on the 40pin plug - viola!)

cheers!

That's what I'm talking about.... The additional pins on that header are for carrying extra +5V and GND, so you don't need the 2-pin power cable.
If both boards don't have 50-pin IDC then you don't have a matched set.... Is that the situation you have?

now that makes sense .. i havent checked for 5v/gnd connections on the other pins of the 50 pin IDC header upper/lower boards, but i will tonight.

as there was diff in the 5v supply rail voltage between the cpu and sound boards, i wanted to add the missing two pin header and cable to the bootleg boardset. i soldered in a temporary cable to replace the "missing" cable.

If both boards don't have 50-pin IDC then you don't have a matched set.... Is that the situation you have?

The two board sets that i am referring to are as follows:
1. original konami tp matched set (w 40 pin headers & 2 pin power lead/hdr)
2. bootleg matched set (w 50 pin headers, NO 2 pin power lead/hdr)
the bootleg sound board (2) does not work at the moment.

i am mixing CPU from 2 and sound from 1, so by your definition yes. works fine though.

i would like to add the 2 pin header to the sound board (2) and the cable/connector to the cpu (2) so that i can mix/match the cpus and sound boards during repairs of my two original konami TP board sets.

Cheers!

Ah, OK, so you're mixing the bootleg and original boards... that makes sense now. BTW, the top board is the sound board and bottom board is CPU/video.

bump.... any further ideas on the connector make/type ?

i measured the pitch at 0.2" (either 5.00mm, 5.03mm or 5.08mm)

connector plug has a tab that extends past the end of the connector, to snap under the header on the board (the header base has an overhang so the plug can snap onto it)

Cheers!
