just picked up a Konami Terraburst, runs on same hardware as Silent Scope (Hornet) anyway was dead, tested PSU and was outputting nothing, just swapped in a brand new PSU and set voltages to 5.10v and boots to the video below, does all self tests and then kicks out the RTC error, even if I set the voltage higher/lower produces the same results, can any help shed some light onto this
thanks in advance

I can take a look tonight of the code for the rtc chip is in mame, if so we can burn a new m48t58y-70pc1 chip for you and it should get it back up n going.

Or im told the non-rtc version, m48z58 works as well, but i havnt installed one of those myself. I have 2 otw to try though, since they are half the cost.

Hey, Mick.

Turns out, I've got one of those RTC chips here. I guess I scavenged it from something. I also have the data file (from the MAME romset). I'll hook up the EPROM programmer this weekend, and see if the RTC IC is good. If so, I can program it and give it to Doug or Steve or someone up here that's going to be down at Curly's next weekend(?) Lemme know.

Yup, it's good. I programmed it and set the clock. It's ready to go if you need it, just say so.

[BTW, you may not remember, but you once offered me a Turbo for free on The Village; least I can do is offer you a chip...]

Any guess how old the chip is? Theyre rated for 10yrs, so if its an oem it probably wont last to long. As long as it gets socketted putting it in, its a great short term fix, since then its just a plug n play change :)

If its pretty new, then its a great long term fix :)

Ive got a few new ones coming in Wed, along with some sockets and I can send 1, or both as needed.

The one I've got has date codes "F-R-E-E" and "W-O-R-K-S" ;)
J/K, it's 1999. IIRC, I got it out of a cigarette point-of-sale display (scrolling text sign type thing). With luck, it was powered on for much of those years, in which case it wasn't using the internal lithium cell. In any case, it's now 13 years old, and they were rated for 10 years minimum life, so with luck it's got some more years in it...

Yeah, good stuff. Free is always awesome :-D Im hoping to try the non-battery backed chips this weekend and see how those work, then we wouldnt have to worry about when itll die again!

well got the chip put in today (used SilentNinja1's first) and after hitting the test switch it now boots!! now got to swap out monitor and will be good to go, thanks again to everyone that helped with this!!!!
