So... These are the 2 pcb's that make the RnR boardset (including a smaller sub-pcb):

The top pcb looks 100% legit, and has a serial sticker of RR-008 on it (LOW!?)

The bottom pcb does NOT have the KONAMI name anywhere on it (which it should?) and the sub-pcb seems legit enough...

Can anyone offer advice on this?

Legit boards will have a "Kosuka" sticker near the edge connector with a serial number on it. Bottom board will have Konami silk-screened on it (with the KT-whatever board number).

Man those bootleggers sure deserve some credit for being so damn crafty back in the day. There was a HUGE sub industry here in Canada. I met an operator that used to import 4-500 pcbs at a time from the bootleggers, and he was just one of the guys.

yeah and i figured out that the sub-pcb (RR-324 SUB) is what replaces Konami's encrypted/custom IC at F/G 4

and like CosackWarrior said, these reverse engineers must have been amazing with mad assembler/c++ skills to do this. and build a new pcb on top of it all! they need credit!!!!

It has always made me wonder what the price difference was to operators (as opposed to legitimate hardware) to really warrant this huge effort from the manufacturers to get profit from the operators.

there needs to be a documentary on this!!! nobody cares now 20-30 years later as most of these companies are all extinct! :)
