Has any progress been made with the nvram on these games. I have one that needs a nvram as well. I can burn it myself if I had the correct file. I would also be glad to buy one if some fixes these.

channelmaniac burned one for silverduck and it worked, but he said it gave him a six speed shifter with a clutch and some of the menues were in japanese...it worked, but only if he chose automatic transmission instead of manual

i can't imagine that the nvram caused this to happen...i think he might have had the deluxe board to begin with (it has a clutch and the regular kind doesn't)...the nvram burning worked and he might have thought he had the regular board, when he probably had the deluxe board

i'm going to send my regular board to channelmaniac and have him reburn my nvram and see if it works

That's because the dumped (NVRAM)-file in mame is only for one specific revision and must match the roms. if you burn the nvram to a fresh M48T58 you also have to burn the other rom's as well (from mame). therefore you will have a working game after all but maybe not the version you had previously until some more versions of the game are dumpe ===>> WE NEED other owners of still working Racing Jam's to dump their still working NVRAM's (and corresponding Rom's). The same for Silent Scope 2 and other Konami Boards using this freakin' RTC chip that should some sort of 'protect' the boards from beiing dumped.

I have a dump of Warzaid. :)

Speaking of which, I need to send 2 chips to OKC to the guy whose board I got the dump from.

i have 3 racing jam boards, 1 works all the way and the other 2 have the dreaded "rtc self check error"...i'd be willing to let someone use my working board to get the info off the chip...i have no means to do it myself...

can you read the markings on the chips (3 digits and 2 or 3 letters) so we know what (maybe additional to mame) version of RJM you have ? and is the NVRAM (M48T58Y) already socketed on your working board ? that would ease the process of dumping it.

I'm currently looking for a NVRAM for the UCG version... mine's dead.

I tried this a year or so ago, no one wanted to do it. I sold off all of my non-working Racing Jam boards for peanuts. The plan was to find someone who wanted to get the GOOD info from my GOOD board and make all of my boards work. I couldn't find anyone who would do the work at any price, so they went on eBay for a few dollars.

I still have the one that is 100% functional, and the one that is semi-Japanese.

I know, I offered to dump the good chip (read the thread) but there was never a response from you... and more: I was also the one who bought the "one working, one non working" from you... but sadly they both were non functional and not as sold one working and the other not so I would have been able to dump the working chip, offer the dump to ALL and write a fresh copy of the working nvram to both boards, AND ALSO SEND YOU SOME CHIPS FOR YOURSELF TO GET YOUR BOARD WORKING AGAIN TOO !!! grrrr...

These were the words:

"Both boards I currently have boxed up have the RTC SELF CHECK ERROR. I do have one board set that has the working RTC chip, but that game is on location earning money. If you are not in a hurry, I can visit that location in a few days and remove that board set and send it off to you. If you want to do that, let me know, and I can unpack and re-pack the box for you. If we do that, could you burn me two working RTC chips, ship them to me, and I can find someone to do my solder work?"

I choosed YES for re-packaging and offered in the same mail to burn chips for you - but sadly received two non-working boards, one didn't even had the small top-board, so was not only non-working but also incomplete... so if that went the other way, everybody might be some steps further now.

The only way to use the boards from you was to dump the other chips(ROMs) for preservation until a good nvram for them will be found and write data from mame to the NVRAM's and PGM-Roms to make them usable.

==> Just to make sure, this is not to blame someone :)
I only remember the whole sad story because I had the boards in my hands yesterday for a game or two :)
