Got a Contra PCB that RAM 1F is failing during boot. Ive looked around but have not found much. Any info on this chip? Looks like its got two smaller chips attached to it underneath some type of coating. I have it highlighted in the pic below.

If memory serves, that custom chip handles the colour mixing, and if it was removed you would find a couple of 2114 RAMs on the underside of the custom. Or I may be thinking of another, similar Konami custom from that era.

What's the number on the top of the custom?

Hmm, I had a bad ram on my Contra Board. It wasn't in 1F though. It was one of the long skinny ics. 6264SL's ... I'll check later on for you. I have the schematic somewhere....

Hello. I know this was some time ago. But you could expand your explanation about using two 2114 rams to replace the custom Konami chip. It does seem to use control the color palette according to the schematics.

Thx.

This is going back a bit, but as I recall there were two 2114 RAMs on the underside of the large black custom chip near the JAMMA edge connector.

Hello solder. Thx for your reply.

Yes, it seems they are two chips there. My question is how can you identify for sure that these chips are 2114 rams?

I know the basics about ICs, but I just want to be completely sure that these are 2114's before doing any change.

PD: Here (pag.13, 007593) are the schematics: http://www.gamesdatabase.org/Media/SYSTEM/Arcade//Manual/formated/Contra_-_1987_-_Konami.pdf

It's been a while but as I recall those two RAMs on the underside of the module are 2114's.

Have you actually removed the module? Can you post any photos?

Hi. Ok. I don't have removed it yet, as I have still to replace the ic's above it. At least one of them seems to be acting strangely. So, I discard one at the time the possible culprint for the 1F ram error.

I will order the replacement parts today including some 2114's in case i have to deal with them. I will you posted.

Edwin.

I bump this old thread just to say I successfully reproduced the Konami '007593' custom IC.I tested my repro on a Vulcan Venture and City Comber PCBs with no issue.I attach a picture of both repro and original cusstom for reference.
