I know the forum has a feedback system, but I was wondering/thought it would be good idea to have a master list of reputable repair folks. Like Car Talk's Mechanic Files or Angie's List.

Perhaps divide the list into specialty sections (boards, monitors, artwork, etc) and geographic location.

I know for the most part the people who operate on this forum are stand up folks and I am incredibly grateful to all of those who have helped me with my machines. I just thought a master list would be a bit easier to navigate and may save time in the process. No more "I have a xxx who should I call?"

In theory if the list was compiled by forum members and moderators it might cut down on folks who operate under the radar and/or provide shotty work.

I would also volunteer some time to help code/organize said list.

A directory of repair people would be very helpful. It just doesn't seem like there are a lot of people out there that are for hire. It seems like most people on this forum fix their own machines and don't really have the time or interest in working on others (even for money). Tell me if I'm wrong.

I have just found that when asking repair questions or looking for parts I get a lot of "talk to xxx that is his specialty" or "go to xxx they are the best at repro work". There are also a lot of horror stories as well, "I sent my board out over a year ago to xxx and never got it back".

I just thought a directory of established folks/businesses would be helpful especially to new people like myself. Not to mention save time on "I live in MN and need a monitor fix where should I go?" posts.

You can always find someone to fix your stuff for money - if you're willing to spend it. My boss will charge you $250 to rebuild a G07. Willing to pay it? Give us a call.

Perhaps you meant to say - nobody is willing to do it cheaply...

$250 is not bad in the big scheme of things.

Considering some of us "garage mechanics" will do it for $50 + parts....

I just don't do local work, as my boss would get pissed and fire me. There's not enough steady work for me to live on. Even the stuff I do for the occasional non-local KLOVer isn't steady enough to be a full-time job...

This is good to know. As a newbie I am not sure where to look or who to go to for basic repairs.

I have started compiling my own list of folks/businesses I have worked with so far, as I am sure many of you other members have. I just thought a master directory of some sort would cut down and shady repair folks and save time.
