KLOV/IAM – Copyright/Submission Policy Changes
Our legal policy page was changed today.
It was primary updated as a result of what we have learned from the numerous inquiries we have received from site visitors wishing extra permission to use International Arcade Museum and KLOV content.
It was also updated to try and clarify our position in order to reassure the two or three of our regular members that have occasionally expressed over the years that they felt our existing terms and conditions were over-reaching, or at least had the possibly of being interpreted that way.
There are no substantial changes to the meat of our policies. Additional language was added to clarify our position, as well as some extra language was added to allow for permitted uses without contacting us where previously such uses were permitted by required contacting us first.
Summary of Changes:
--Although 'The International Arcade Museum' is a registered trademark, it hasn't previously been a company name. It now is. Thus, many references to 'WebMagic' have been replaced with 'The International Arcade Museum.' [Work is also underway to create a 501c3 non-profit wing of the International Arcade Museum, our reference library continues to grow, and we are doing -very- early explorative research on a museum location that would be open to the public].
-- An introduction section was added that explains our general policy: Limited use of our content is generally permitted, wholesale copying is not. The reasons for these general guidelines were also explained.
-- It was always our intent that when someone submitted something (such as an image) to the site, that they could continue to use the same material themselves (like on their web site). This has been specifically provided for in the new version.
-- The new version of the policies provide for home/personal use of up to 10 images from our sites without having to contact us first, if the images are related to video-games or pinball machines. The previous version did not provide for this. People wishing to use images for other types of machines should still contact us first for the time being.
-- Commercial use of up to 10 game images per year for printed magazines, newspapers and books without contacting us first is also provided. Up to 10 images can be used on a commercial web site can be used without contacting us first.
-- Personal or commercial use of images still require crediting KLOV.com and/or The International Arcade Museum
-- eBay Auctions: A link back to us is no longer required if eBay does not permit a 'href' link. Crediting us is still required. The required credit line has changed to include a statement that the KLOV and International Arcade Museum "have not reviewed this listing" as we don't want to be seen to be endorsing a listing or seller.
Additionally, the copyright notice at the bottom of each page has been greatly simplified.
