This is just a friendly messageboard high score competition.

The game in question is Pac-Man Plus.

You must achieve your score during the competition, which runs from 11/5 and ends sunday evening 11/11 at roughly midnight central time. No using your old score from last year. Current and former Twin Galaxies world record holders on Pac-Man Plus are not eligible to win this contest, although they are encouraged to submit a score for exhibition purposes.

Please attempt to photograph your score in some manner if you can.

You may choose to use the speed up version with 3 lives or default speed version with 5 lives, that choice is up to you.

Mame, real pcbs and multiboards are all appropriate platforms to play the game on. Any version is fine on real hardware provided it doesn't have any cheats installed.

No mame cheats, games achieved using emulator save states or modified roms please.

Please post your scores in this thread. Go ahead and post your score even if it isn't competitive with the others (I know mine won't be).

Winner of the competition may select the game for the next competition. I suggest you go ahead and post your selection for the next game when you post your score, that way I don't have to have any delay between contests. Please try to stick to common titles or titles available on the 60 in 1 or 19 in 1 boards in order to maximize the number of people who can participate. If you pick something obscure that gets no buzz then I reserve the right to replace the selection.

You are also certainly encouraged to use this thread to post your Pac-Man Plus tips, tricks, stories and technical information.

I don't really think one of mine would be a candidate, Heavy Barrel. That game seems to always have about the same score when it gets completed.

I love Heavy Barrel...it was my first game...I would love to own it again someday.

As for the contest, I need to get an arcade joystick set-up for my PC so I can get MAME set up and then I can get to playing some of these games. I've just been too cheap to get one and too picky to buy a cheap one.

challenge accepted. i am very busy this week but i will play a couple games and see what happens...

this was the best i could come up with tonight

Mine is 120k IIRC.

thats highly arbitrary and i feel obligated to note that waiting to post a high score within a deadline could well be part of a gamers strategy. if youre going to post a deadline you should probably stick with that, even if you announce a new competition sooner.

just my opinion.

ps: if i end up winning, which i highly doubt, my selection of the next game to play is asteroids deluxe, just for the record.

By no buzz I mean that no one talks about it, no one says they are playing, etc. I don't want any repeats of the Alpine Ski contest that no one played. =)

Hurricane got in the way of submitting.

Played a few games today, 121,190. There is definitely some rust, I have not played many of the factory speed Pac-man style games in years. Been playing too much of the fast Ms. Pac-man.

Doubt if this score will hold up. But if it does, being that I just picked up a dedicated cab a couple of weeks ago:D, I would choose Gyruss as the next game.

second game tonight, did 74k, not so good but i am drunk as a skunk. thats a nice looking gyruss, i wouldnt mind playing that next at all!!!

Dusted off my 60 in 1 (literally, it was covered in dust) and played a couple games. Only managed 38,110 but I am going to blame some of that off transitioning from the midway stick in the Ms. Pac that just left my gameroom to the reunion stick on my 60 in 1.

I played a game earlier and only managed about 43k. I'm going to try and play some more tonight though as I know I can do better once I get used to it.

Thanks for the contests

I just want to thank you guys for keeping this going (the second time I have posted this). I have no hope of getting the high score on any game (I was never good at that but enjoy a LOT of old games, and new ones as well). While I don't excel at any one game (maybe Galaga and Bosconian) I enjoy variety and I haven't played Pac Plus since maybe 1997. I just overlooked it for a decade and a half! I miss the gimmickry of the game and now I get to introduce it to my son who has never played it but who loves Ms. Pac and Pac.

My first shot at it this evening after a grueling tech support day was higher than I remember ever getting on my old 1990's PC.

Way far from respectable, but I enjoyed the game.

I did a little better this time and wanted to play again but my board has been acting up and I need to get someone to repair it (it's a ms. pac board with the clay multi-pac on it).

Regular speed, 5 men to start.
