This is just a friendly messageboard high score competition.

The game in question is Burgertime

attachment.php

You must achieve your score during the competition, which runs from December 3rd and ends sunday evening December 9th at roughly midnight central time.

No using your old score from last year. Current and former Twin Galaxies world record holders on Burgertime are not eligible to win this contest, although they are encouraged to submit a score for exhibition purposes.

Please attempt to photograph your score in some manner if you can.

Mame, real pcbs and multiboards are all appropriate platforms to play the game on. Any version is fine on real hardware provided it doesn't have any cheats installed.

No mame cheats, games achieved using emulator save states or modified roms please.

Dip Switch Settings
3 Lives
Bonus Life 10,000
Enemies 4
End of Level Pepper: NO

Please post your scores in this thread. Go ahead and post your score even if it isn't competitive with the others (I know mine won't be).

Winner of the competition may select the game for the next competition. Please post your selection for the next game when you post your score, otherwise I will choose the next title myself. Please try to stick to common titles from the Vaps Top 100 collected games or titles available on the 60 in 1 or 19 in 1 boards in order to maximize the number of people who can participate. If you pick something obscure that gets no buzz then I reserve the right to replace the selection. If the winner of the contest has already won the last two contest then the next contest will instead use the title selected by the first runner up.

You are also certainly encouraged to use this thread to post your Burgertime tips, tricks, stories and technical information.

Darn! I played my best game ever earlier this afternoon (before I saw this post) and it was in the mid 40,000s. Guess now I have a reason to hammer a few more games out this week ;)

Best tip is to load the top bun with enemies so that the whole burger will drop down.

I suck at Burgertime but I've been playing it a lot lately in mame as I want to get a dedicated cab at some point.

Any rules on which version, as there are cassette and dedicated versions. I can't tell a difference in gameplay between the two, but the cassette version for some reason has better image quality for me in mame.

Play whatever version you want.

Cassette version of the game doesn't have a 10,000 point extra life setting, so I used the dedicated version.

Edit: My highest score ever tonight(12-6), up to 47,200. Learned to drop more enemies lower for more points in the easier stages.

Managed to get to Stage 6, but cannot figure out how to get by it. 72,950pts. Every time I play this game, it makes me want to raid the fridge or go buy some grub.:D I do not like the setting of not getting a Pepper after clearing a stage:(, always played this game years ago with getting the End of Level Pepper. Great game though, enjoying it. Somebody should be able to beat this score, but if it holds I would choose Mr. Do! as the next game.

Burger Time High Score - 1,348,550

I don't usually play on these settings, I prefer the 20k and end of level pepper, had to do some signifcant pepper management to get this score, ultimatly had to throw in the towel at Level 17 - 1,348,550, had no pepper left and you can't out run them without. If the score hold ups next game - Space Invaders.

Now that is a great score! Any tips on getting by Stage 6?

Whats with the settings? Isn't factory settings supposed to be 20k and end of level pepper?
Are the ones being used Twin Galaxies settings? and how come... i just told my wife to get a good score for this contest but we have it on what i thought were factory settings

gwarble

Twin Galaxies is unavailable so I have no clue what their settings are. I have largely been using the default settings from mame for these contests which should also be the default settings for the x in 1 boards (since those run mame).

On some titles I have specifically selected dip switch settings that make marathon sessions impossible. This is a casual contest about skill not about which skilled guy can go the longest without peeing or falling asleep.

in my opinion it should be factory settings (with the marathon exception i guess)

anyway, here's my wife's score after we changed the dips to 10k and no pepper
197200

The twin gallaxies settings are 20k and end of level pepper, that's why I had mine set to them but I chnaged them for the competition. With the 10k setting you basically have to decide whether to loose a man or waste a pepper.

As for tips - to score big and make the boards easier, you have to group the enemies, once grouped each drop is worth 16K and they stay grouped. It took alot of joystick time to undestand how they behave so that I could group them on each board, I'm still working it, for example, I have not been able to fine a way to group them on board 5.

Tip for Dr. Detroit on Board 6 - take an immediate right and go up the main ladder, take a quick left and keep goin left, you have to be quick to beat the pickle coming down the ladder, go down the ladder at the end of the row and head back to where you started, the enemies should be group pretty well, now head to the top left. That should get you started.

Thanks
Greg
