OK, so here's my deal and I want to tap into the KLOV Borg collective mind here for a better solution.

I have a wall of 5 cabinets in my game room and there is no way for me to easily get behind them to work on them now because the 5 fill the space.

I have one of them (my MAME cab) that I put casters on so I can wheel it forward to make room to get behind the games. (These are a little out of position at the moment).

What I do now is grab the front of the MAME cab and wiggle it side-to-side and forward and back until I get it out in front of the other games so I can slip in behind it to work.

It's a PITA to do this because the casters sink into the (relatively thin) carpet enough so they're sitting in little depressions in the carpet. I tried adding some magic slider type deals to the front casters and that helped a bit but it's a PITA. It can't be good for the cabinet either. (The sliders are the medium sized rectangular ones, not the little disks).

Anyway, is there a better way to easily slide that MAME cab forward and out? Anyone come up with anything better for their setup or have any ideas? I find myself needing to get back there at least a couple of times a month, sometimes a lot more than that depending on how well behaved the games are.

Thanks in advance!

First off, battlezone and spy hunter are going to beat up that mame late one night

Secondly, I think you are basically stuck. I have a similar setup and pretty much just open the coin door and yank away. I do, however, put all my vids in the lineup on the circular coaster/movers.

Lastly, get a good chiropractor.

I just get a dolly, put it under the front end and carefully slide the cabinet out.

I have the same problem with my games side by side and having carpet. So my solution is to put computer chair mats down under each of my games and then having extra mats to slide the games around without getting the castors stuck in the carpet....works great...make sure you get the stiffest office quality grade mats, they work the best...

not sure if this info will help at all but I have games upstairs that are on a wood floor. I went to kmart and bought their roll out carpet mats or runners or whatever you want to call them. I cut them to the size of the bottom of the cabs. One runner was long enough to do four games. I placed them carpet side down on the wood floor with the rubber bottom side up against the games base. They make the games slide very easily on wood. I know you have carpet but if you placed some type of finished wood under where the games sit you'd likely be able to utilize the same basic concept.

Since it's already MAMEd and keeping it original isn't a concern I'd rig something like a ski rope inside the coin door attached to the back panel or the back of the bottom.

When you need to move it out, just grab the handle and pull. When you're done, just drop it back inside and close the door.

That's a great idea, opening the coin door up and tugging. Makes it easier than wiggling the stupid cab back and forth. :)

Got the chiropractor covered and yeah, the MAME has developed an inferiority complex. There was a really nice Star Trek cab off to the right too that didn't make the picture.

It's funny you'd say that because about 6 months ago I had a mat that I was using under my computer desk and it had cracked so I replaced it and then cut what was left so it was a little wider than this cab and slid it into place and the slid the cab up onto it.

In the process the damned t-molding on the bottom got caught and pulled out and it was a fine time trying to get the damn stuff back in. Messed up the t-channel a bit in the process.

My problem was getting it onto and off the mat -- there just wasn't enough clearance for it to go smoothly so I gave up on it. Maybe I should have gotten taller wheels for more clearance or have had the mat more forward like yours, I dunno. Maybe having extra mats to wheel it onto would have helped but that's kind of a pain by itself.

So that just does the front wheels of the cab?

You slide the dolly under the front, tip it back and wheel it out of the way. My games in the gameroom are in the same situation. Side by side on carpet. I put HongKongFooie "magic sliders" under some of them, but usually I just use the dolly to pull them out when I need access to the back.

I vote for a mini-forklift that attaches to a wheel chair lift to get the machines up the stairs...

that or mini-hovercraft..

Get on it..
