KISS questions

i like the band, but the pin is OVERATED, seriously how often do people pay big bucks for other pins from 78(playboy,wcs,etc...) ......never! its not a bad pin, but not worth 3000 either

that project will cost 3 times what any other pin from 78 would cost to restore simply for the "kiss" factor

To me, this is what makes the hobby.. certain themes ALWAYS have a higher demand and price than others, even though the gameplay may be similar. Items depicting Kiss from the 70's are in high demand and take a higher price no matter what the item is.

I was recently over at another Forum members house, and he had 4 70's pins in his home.. Six Million Dollar man, captain fantastic, Eight ball, and one other.. and I must say that these game were right on par with the Kiss pinball as far as play goes. I didn't think that ANY of them were better than Kiss, but more so just like Kiss in gameplay.

So if you dislike the Kiss pin, you probably would dislike all of the 70's style pins..

So what I get from the thread is that it's valued at between $400 and $600.

And that most folks that weren't old enough to remember KISS from back in the day don't care for the pin or the band.

Does that about sum it up?

not quite, i was a baby then , I LIKE KISS, i just dont think that pin is worth 3000 when its gameplay is the same as a 700.00 pin of the same year(insert pin name) i realize there are kiss fans that will pay it, .....a sucker born every minute, all i know is i didnt pay 3k for it, I WILL PAY THAT FOR A GNR , much much much better pin ....and it has a soundtrack!

Just making a general statement since I've noticed the same thing with younger friends not liking them.

I like them, but not enough to spend too much on the pinball machine.

I can remember flipping through their vinyl albums at the department store and my mother refusing to buy them. So I had to listen to them over at my cousin's house. He had the albums, he had the posters, he had the comic book.

I do still have the unused tickets I had for a local concert about ten years ago that they ended up canceling at the last minute. They were one of the groups I missed seeing in high-school that I wanted to see.

I'm going to pass the price range along to my friend and see if it's interesting enough to him to make him part with it. If not, he's still got the options of me helping him work on it or storing it in a climate controlled area.

Either way, it will live to see another day.

Hard to believe it's been two years since I started this thread.

Finally worked things out and I picked it up today. Got it cleaned up a little and stored it until I work through to its spot in the line of things to restore.

I finished up my list of video games a while back and this was the last pin I was looking for, so now I'm down to a couple of EM games to have my personal list of favorite games completed.

Have fun redoing that pin. You can always put an overlay from www.fabfan.com or www.arcadeshop.com that is screen printed on mylar $200 and then consider clear coating it if you have the skill. I bought one about 12 years ago for $500 not working, fixed it up and sold it for $2400. It had a mint glass, overlay, cab repaint when it was sold along with new bumper caps from Steve Young.

As for play it is a typical Bally of the Era which is not that fun but decent and far better than an EM pin. Pins never got crazy fun until around 1980 when Black Knight and Flash Gordon came out. After that they just got better and better.

It is definatly worth fixing and there are enough collectors who want one period. I had a hard time selling mine even though at the time I had T2, TZ, STNG and The Simpson's next to it. Take your time and do it right. Also triple thick that glass as it is starting to flake on the bottom and a new one will cost you $250-$400 if Mayfair still sells them.
