I know that most everyone on here has seen this movie - but I just finally got a chance to see it the other night.
I was just wondering what the general take is on this movie?
I have heard Billy and Steve's name tossed around on here from time to time - but didnt have an opinion one way or another.

While I can have a certain level of adoration for anyone that can MASTER an arcade game - the movie definitely painted a certain picture of the people involved. I can understand that the movie is not necessarily a 100% accurate representation of the facts... however there were things in the movie that I definitely found questionable...

So not to open an old wound (if that is the case) but what is the general feedback on this movie?

It is what it is. A movie. And an entertaining one to watch with questionable scenes and facts as you said.

It paints Steve as the good guy and Billy as the bad guy. Both with their unique personalities. It was done that way to build the story.

Though, I've never met either. I've heard that both are stand up guys who are very kind and generous with their resources, talents and time.

billy mitchell is god, steve wiebe sucks. neglecting his children and then dragging his family across the country to watch him lose. crybaby, crybaby, go home and cry, crybaby!

Hey bradd tell us how you really feel. :)

There's a Donkey Kong kill screen coming up, if anyone is interested...

From what I've seen, Billy M although not as bad as portrayed in the movie, is not somebody I'd want to hang out with. Steve Weibe, however, seems like a pretty good guy and quite approachable. Walter Day seems like a really good guy too.

I believe the Twin Galaxies guys dispute some of what is in the movie. If their website were available you might even be able to read some of that.

Definitely one point in the movie where my wife and I looked at each other and were like.. OMG seriously???

Don't get me wrong - I am an absolute admirer of the classics... and funspot (though I have never been there) is the real deal... but wow!!! There were definitely parts in the movie that I was thinking... if some of my wife's family saw this movie - they would think that all arcade people are that "touched" or "special" and I feel like I need a disclaimer now saying - yes I collect arcades - but I'M NOT LIKE THAT!!!!

You know, he's gonna have to play it perfectly, he's at the hardest part of Donkey Kong, and it's not gonna get any easier. So, we may have an exciting moment here, or you know, the pressure may get to him, one of those random elements might happen. Sounds like he just cleared another board, but we could have a wild barrel, or some aggressive fireballs. I thought I was gonna be the first FunSpot kill screen, and then I had three fireballs trap me, I had the hammer in my hand, they still got me. So, anything can happen in Donkey Kong. So, for someone else to beat me to the kill screen would be a letdown, but let's see what happens, maybe he'll crack under the pressure and maybe I'll get my chance to do it first...

My favorite line is when Steve's wife, Nicole, says he's "really good with his hands" (or something like that)! LMAO!!

Never saw the movie. I love playing my games, but the notion of caring about who has the world record for a game really doesn't interest me in any way, shape or form.

To me, Billy Mitchell (and all the others) is a character, as real or as meaningful to my life as Hulk Hogan or Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Of course, that's probably also due to the act I've never been very good at any of these $%$&! things... :D

"Meh, Hey Billy". LOL

I liked it and forced my wife to sit and watch it.

I've heard mixed reviews from several folks on Billy. I've heard he's a genuine guy with stand up morals and a heart of gold. I've also heard from others that he's the biggest jerk ever.

Most everyone attests to the same answer when asked about Steve: He's a nice guy, but quite. Good luck trying to talk to him.

Walter is straight up a nice guy. Even if he hates your guts, he's the nicest guy to you.

I met Steve Wiebe at the Logan Hardware event in Chicago earlier in the year. He's everything you see in the movie--very polite and engaging in a humble sort of way. But one thing that doesn't come across in the movie is how sharp and funny he is. He expressed some disdain for the very lengthy procedure required now by TG on this one game. As they opened the back, he said "Roy Shildt is actually hiding inside there working all the controls."

And he is one badd-azz DK player which matters to me. I learned some things watching him play. Like anything done extremely well, he makes it look so easy... at least most of the time. He's still clearly taken aback by the vast number of people who respect him and his game play and you can tell that he does his best to accommodate all the approaches. As people yelled out to him from the crowd, he'd answer back--"thank you!" even though he was in extreme DK peril.

There was, I thought, a telling moment in the movie. Steve Sanders was sitting alongside Billy Mitchell at a table in his *his parent's* restaurant. The icy glare Billy gave Sanders as he decribed his impressions of the integrity and decency of Steve Wiebe was priceless.

Wiebe & family would be welcome in my home anytime. And Hank Chien. These are people worthy of respect. And Walter Day too so long as there's no guitar around. :)

One of those movies I can watch over and over. Like Anvil, The Story of Anvil.

the reason anvil never made it big is because they suck, even by metal standards. they have credibility for doing what they did when they did it, and then for sticking to their guns, but seriously, the vocals are awful and they dont have many great songs.

If we are talking personalities The only one that is a Real "Normal" person is Wiebe, ALL others are just plain Wackos
