"King Of Kong" Arcade.....

Aside from the Family Guy pinball, what a depressing array of games...yuck. Great decor and I love the idea, but anyone who liked King of Kong would walk out of there disappointed for sure. And not having Donkey Kong there is like KFC not having chicken...doesn't make much sense...that is what he, and King of Kong, are known for. Bummer.

The place bleeds DK, but no DK cab? That is weird. Maybe he didn't want to set himself up for people to say he should do a live record attempt there? Or maybe he had nothing to do with it and he's just banking off of it. I doubt he personally selected those games. But who knows?

Could that place look any cooler, and have a crappier selection of games????
It looks really nice, but with JUNK for games. WTF?! Get some classics in there AND some new games. Worthless.... First your Hot Sauce sucked, then your own arcade... shame on you Billie!

Meh, as has been established in numerous threads, even if he DID have a DK machine in there, it wouldn't earn enough to cover the utility costs of keeping it plugged in. Looks like a typical 21st century arcade, mostly rip off redemption titles, with a handful of casual friendly Raw Thrills crap.

I don't think a Donkey Kong is going to make the kind of money that those other games make. Making money is the only reason why a commerical arcade exists.

Utility costs of keeping it plugged in?

How much to you think all those custom signs and murals for the walls cost? They are shooting themselves in the foot without having a DK in there.

I agree that a Donkey Kong - or even one of those hybrid Donkey Kong / Donkey Kong Jr. / Mario Bros. machines - isn't going to bring in that much coin in a regular location.

But, two things:

1. It would probably do better in this location than most.

2. Whether or not it makes money in plays is besides the point. It's marketing. This business has a theme, and the theme is based on that game. You put it in there to fit the theme, just like you put a Red Robin statue at Red Robin, or Chuck E. Cheese at Chuck E. Cheese. People expect them to be there.

If you made a movie and it's core theme was DK and then you open an arcade using the name from the movie and it's core theme DK.....

Kinda like opening a Flynn's arcade but not having a Tron......

It's like opening a restaurant called "Bubba Gumps" and not serving shrimp on the menu! :p

Yeah, its very clear classics dont earn. But this is not just a standard arcade...its the frickin king of frickin kong arcade...with no frickin kong! Blasphamy!

I will hopefully swing by on my flight home Friday morning, depending on what time they open, and where it is located (my flight leaves at 8:41...). I'll post up with more info/pics if I do.

*edit: just watched the video. Looks like I won't miss much if I can't swing by. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

It's like opening a White Castle and not serving those crappy little gut bomb burgers....:p

I also think its odd that they would advertise an arcade like that and not have any retro games, let alone Donkey Kong.

Also, is Wiebe making any money off of this? His face is up there....

I know Billy claimed it's "his" arcade but the way he thinks... somebody probably just paid him a cut of it or fee to use his name. When you're a guy like Billy, that makes it "your" arcade. Billy's the kind of guy that, if you ask him the time and he tells you--you should still look at a clock because he's got an angle. Obviously, there's a game vendor supplying the games; thus the newer stuff. No vendor wants to try to maintain the classics. Or not many...
