I know this has been posted before but I recently had the chance to hit the King of Kong Arcade in Orlando, Florida. Impressions.....done top notch.....very kewl looking in person.....no DK machine but then again keeping one running 24/7 would only be managed by somebody 'in the know'.....a really nice pin.....great signage and wall art.....special hot sauce available - of course. Here are a few shots:

Also put an entry in my arcade blog about the visit:

Looks pretty cool, I wonder if its pretty easy to run into Billy up there since that is his arcade.

I got there today for the first time from a vaca at Disney and to my surprise, Billy Mitchell was in there surrounded by cameras. Turns out Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) is doing another documentary. I think it is called 50 Greatest Documentaries. So my kids being oblivious to who is in there start running around doing what kids do and I'm standing in the entrance acting all fan-boyish. I fought it but I couldn't help myself.

After a short interview, I see they are getting ready to play air-hockey and my 9-yr old is right there with them. Turns out they didn't have any tokens! Billy Mitchell in his own arcade didn't have tokens. lol! So my kid offers to pay. So cool. Unprompted, just being a kid. They gave him a stack of tokens when it was over. We had to sign releases and they told us it is airing August 1st on the Current network http://current.com/

Sorry, just had to share.

Now that is a pretty cool story. Didn't get any pics did you?

I hung around as long as I could. We had a flight to catch. I really wanted my pic with Billy. I'll see what pics my wife took.

This is the best one I could find. He said this was the first time he's played air hockey.

A retrofitted one with new components. A newer DK / DK JR / Mario Bros. machine. Or a MAME machine with DK.

A King of Kong arcade without the namesake game - and the game that made it possible - just makes no sense at all to me. It's ridiculous.

[/rant] :D

I was there in march and spoke to the guy working the desk. He said that original DK and Pac Man machines are in the works. It wouldn't suprize me if we saw a Kong Off machine in there.

I couldn't agree more. The very few people who will actually recognize "The King of Kong" name would all rush in to see a Donkey Kong machine, but instead will find an air hockey table...

why do those king of kong arcades always look so damn small?

and why does everyone have to take a pic of the sign? (just wondering in general).

I don't suppose there's anybody that could record this for me? I don't get the Current network and the first episode starts tonight. Don't know which episode will have King of Kong in it.
