Anyone heard of King Boxer? It's a Data East cab with the pcb marked Wood Place Inc. The coin door & mechs are just like my Frogger except the 25 cent logos are lit. I was wondering if it's been converted or? The front panel is hinged and opens just under the cp, folding downward, towards the floor. Seems to be a similar game to Ring King.

Thanks.

Ring King was the USA name, King Of Boxer outside of USA.

Ring King is Data East and has a Frogger-esque looking woodgrain cab by the look of the KLOV entry.

I've got one of my cars torn apart in the garage and I can't get to my Data East cab right now. As soon as I can, I'll get a pic. I'm wondering if it's a kit of a Ring King knockoff. The cab looks like a regular Data East (woodgrain & side shape), but the front panel is not like one I've seen. I must say, I havn't seen many. It's pretty beat up & the guy I got it from said the monitor only had a single, horizontal white line when it's turned on. The pcb has some burn on the edge connector, and the wiring is all over the inside. I think it'll best be used as parts.

There's a second cabinet on the KLOV entry, as seen below. This is the dedicated model. The woodgrain cabinet pictured above is indeed a Frogger conversion.

I've seen the coin door you describe, with the lit "25 cent" logos. These were on the early run of dedicated Karate Champs, and were replaced with the standard over/under coin door part way through the production run. I've never seen a dedicated Ring King with this older door though. Perhaps you have a converted Karate Champ?

There's a picture of a K.C. with that earlier coin door at the link below...

Thanks. Your second pic looks more like it. It IS a wood grain cab w/ frogger style coin mechs. (looks nothing like my frogger cab) I'll be hopefully moving my car Wed night to get a pic.

Finally got a pic of my King Boxer.

I plugged this game in to see what works and what doesn't so I know what to salvage. So far, it works & plays okay. Some graphic issues, but the monitor seems sharp & clear. PS is stable, contols work (all leaf style), and coin mechs work except one of the wires the coin hits is missing. If you look at the opponant and ref, they are not solid charactors. I'm thinking a rom seating issue. Your thoughts? Sorry for the pics. With no flash, my camara has a slow shutter speed.

Played around with this a little tonight. Pulled, cleaned, reseated all chips. Same as before. If I adjust the +5 voltage to below 5 volts, the two images are almost clear, but then I have black horizontal bars across the screen. With the voltage up to 5.13, everything on the screen is correct except for these two characters (sprites). WT#?

Looks to be converted from Data East's Boomer Rang'r. The green and purple art on the front bend in the control panel matches.

That's the version I remember. Has a really tough control panel, which is a good fit for the game.
