Who has the Kinect already? Does it work? My wife wants one for the dance and workout games...not sure if I want one if it's buggy.

Also, where can I get one? Everyone seems to be sold out.

It seems as long as your not black it works just fine.:001_ssuprised:

Google it

well..

Well first off local places say in the next week should be getting more..
i hear if your dark skinned and it's not bright in the room it ha a harder time tracking you...
Smile I guess.... I dunno, a few people I know had some issues. but If you read about it says keep the room bright, and run it many times in different lighting and its supposed to be getting better with each run...

So will be interesting to see the results..

I think it's overpriced for a gimmick intended to cash in on the Wii market.

Get a Wii, if you already have one...get a balance board. 3rd party boards are cheaper too. And there are more games than just Wii Fit, there's snowboarding and skateboarding games etc.

You won't see enough 3rd party support for this thing. The Wii has a MUCH larger install base of casual gamers, and devs will go there before they go here.

We played it the other night, and it was fun. Some of the launch games are a bit buggy, but I'd expect the second wave of games to be better. The ladies seemed to love Dance Central, and my 2 year old had a blast jumping around in front of it (while others were playing).

Kinect will be able to do fitness things that the Wii can't. It can track how high you jump instead of just knowing you jumped, for example.

The Kinect is really pretty awesome and a very impressive piece of engineering design work. I've had one for quite a while and it works great for us. My 4 yr old daughter just loves it.

Dance Central looks like the only game that looks half decent and does anything sort-of new. The rest of the launch games look pretty rubbish.

I had a go of a Kinect in a store here, and there is a slight lag with sensing your movement. It's not too bad, but I did notice it.

I bought a Kinect and 4 games for the wife/son for Christmas.

I got

Kinect Adventures
Kintect Sports
Kinect Joyride
Kinect Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (for the wife)

I won't be able to report on any of this crap until the fat dude slides down the chimney.

Stay tuned.

We got one awhile ago. The dance central game seems to work well, my wife loves it. Fighters uncaged however has horrible motion tracking. It seems to be up to the devs to implement proper motion and position tracking, so the whole platform is dependant on the effort the devs put in.

The other problem is the same problem that the Wii has - to a serious gamer, most genres of games just aren't any more fun with motion tracking than they are with a standard controller.

The only genres that really seem to benefit from motion tracking are sports games where you don't have to run around like bowling and golf, and dance games.

For all other games, the motion controls are more cumbersome to use and are less precise than a regular controller. Motion controls for eg FPS or driving games just make games more frustrating if you're used to a normal controller.

But for someone who's a casual gamer who's not going to spend more than 30 mins at a time on the console, ie not really into gaming, motion controls can be appealing.

My main concern is if it will keep the wife and son happy. I doubt I ever touch it, at least not while sober. Seems like the track and field events might be fun with some friends and cold beer.

UPDATE:

Kintect ROCKS. Takes a minute to figure out, but it does what it says it does. A lot of fun. Get one.

I always laugh at the reviews found online where people trash the motion-controlled games because they aren't for hardcore gamers. The goal of the entire movement (heh, wordplay) was to get games to the masses, not to the hardcore gamers. No, the games aren't going to be "WHOAMG EPIC!!!1" like Call of Duty or Halo. They're mostly quick-hitting mini games, some of which are very fun.

I just played this for hours today. Dance Central, Joy Ride, Adventures, and Sports.

Had a F**king blast. Dance central is awesome and I HATE dancing lol.

Joy ride is cool, kinda like mario kart with weapon pick ups and boost.

Sports was ehh. they need to work on it.

Adventures is cool, this was the first thing i played so getting used to it was a little awkward.

Overal, I would buy one, exceeded my expectations, the tracking is really nice and with dance central you always saw yourself in the screen so you could tell or someone else could tell if your doing the moves or not.
