and what I mean by that, is that they are left to rot in places like Laundrymats.

Reaosn I say this is because today, I decided to head up the street to a laundrymat I have not been in maybe 2 years. I completely forgot that they had a Class of 81 MsPac/Galaga machine in there.

So much screenburn and the cabinet has so many cracks due to it being next to a closet/maintenance room. The door hits the cab as it opens.

but anyway, the art is still nice on it and some people still play it occasionally but just seeing that thing in the shape it's in, it's kind of sad to me that that cab is just left there to rot.

I would ask the owner to sell it to me, but the problem with dealing with peope like that is that they think it's worth something like $5,000 just because it's big and has PacMan on it.

Sounds like it's worth at most $150 from what you described. That kinda stuff is sad.

I doubt that its really left to rot. First, any Ms. Pac or Galaga dedicated should pull in 35 a month on its on. So this one may be pulling in 50 every month if its sped up. That being said, remember, its just a crappy particle board cabinet and probably 10k+ of those cabs are probably floating around. Heres what you do. Find out who owns it. Just mention to them that you might be interested in it if they ever decide to sell it. Then periodically check back every 3 months or so to make sure they still have your info. Eventually, the monitor will die, and they will want to sell it to you. As long as its playing blind it would probably be worth 100 bucks. Then fix the monitor or get a used one. Transplant its innards into an empty ms pac cab or plywood repro one.

And if all that's too much work. Just write it off as a lost cause. You can't save them all.

Meh. Its just a reunion cab. No real huge loss.

Amen! I can't stand playing either of those games with a microswitch joystick. The 25" monitor is too big. It doesn't have the original feel of either game. Never played Pac on it because I can't remember the cheat but I'll bet it has the same problems.

Sums that up. I'm talking of games in general. :)
Those reunions are every where like weeds. Id wish there was Gyruss, Discus of Tron, Marble Madness and maybe Donkey Kong. There needs at least some diversity!

It kinda pisses me when ever I pass by a row of games in a local pizza shop. The game line up: Crane, Mspac/galaga, Mega touch some cheesy driving game. But I have never seen those kids playing the classic games! There always dumping them into some crane pit or where ever. Only the older folks have the guts to drop 50 into the reunion... what a waste of a gaming childhood these kids have.

uhhh, piece of shit class of '81 is hardly a "classic". the joysticks are garbage and the screen is too big. the only reason i would even take one for free would be to sell it and buy a real game with the proceeds.

you want to see a crazy arcade laundromat? check this place out"

Wait...are you saying this is a "classic"?

By that logic, I ought to be using a walker. ;)

Class of 81 a classic? Put down the crackpipe. Thats like sayin, I have a classic for sale....a mame cab i built out of cardboard and it comes with a 4 way joystick that plays all the trac-ball classics on an ibm 286 and an lcd monitor. As Animal Muther once said "fk her, let her rot"

btw-is anyone besides me disgusted by the rise of lcd monitors installed for sale in classic cabs, like Donkey Kong for instance that someone in L.A. keeps trying to sell on ebay with a starting bid of only $1999...and advertised as an improvement? Stop it. Just stop it. Is there anyone of sound mind that thinks the classics look and play better on an LCD rather than their original monitors? Yeah, the people who prefer CGI Star Wars to the original. On a different note, does anyone know how I can block specific sellers from my ebay searches? I'm tired of looking at certain peoples ridiculously overpriced 30 day auction crap that always goes unsold. You know who you are.

I was at Dave and Buster's the other week. They had Galaga/pac/ms pac machine, and a combo qix machine, and a dk, dk jr, mario bros machines.

The monitors were way too big I also agree. Also they all had some screen curling issues on the corners already.
