Hey guys,
I kind of had a stupid zaxxon question. How does the LED button work on the top of the flight stick. I mean does it tie into the +12 or 5 volts in the coin door and ground to the leaf switch from the joystick trigger. Does it flash with the fire fire button on the control panel or just from the flight stick trigger. Mine doesn't work and it looks a little butchered. And up until 10 minutes ago, I wasn't even sure they ever worked. Its probably burned out. What voltage does the replacement need to be. Anyone replace it with a different color and what style is it. Or do you know a good source for a replacement. I know its a little thing, but it is a fairly neat feature that would add a little coolness to an otherwise seldom played game in my collection. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it was never a light. I think they planned to do so and then never did. All the ones I've seen had the little plastic cap there with no light....

EDIT - Well, I've never seen one working, but the manual says it's an LED fire indicator, so I guess it would light when you fire...

If there is a light or not. It would be nice to make sure there is one! :)

Basically it's a panel mount LED with a resistor. Very tight space inside the metal joystick so they have insulation around the resistor and wire connection.

Here is something close to a replacement, except it's not flat on top.

You would need to solder in a resistor and insulate it.

Correction, I just noticed this part comes with the resistor integrated, so it can run directly off the supplied +5V to the joystick. No need for the extra resistor

I know this is a super old thread, but I needed to replace my Zaxxon stick LED and this was the only recommendation that I could find online. So I went ahead and purchased the digi-key part and installed it this weekend and it worked perfectly. Any future Zaxxon owners looking to replace the LED, the digi-key part in this thread works great.

Did you have to add an external resistor to the digikey part or did it have an internal resistor built in.

I wish I had taken pics. The existing wiring already had a resistor in line, I just clipped the old LED and added the new LED after the existing resistor, so I didn't add anything. I just soldered it in and used some shrink tubing to cover the exposed wire/leads since it was going to be in such a cramped area. I was having a trigger jamming issue as well so I also added a new trigger switch while I had it apart. I'll tell you what, that LED working is beautiful! The LED has a definite + and -, so make sure you wire it in correctly or it won't work. So awesome though, I am so pumped to have my stick LED working!

Thanks so much for the info, the LED fit perfectly and is super bright. It adds so much to the game. I know Zaxxon gets no love, but the metal flight stick with the LED is just awesome.

It's hard to believe it's been almost 8 years ago exactly that I posted that digi-key part number.

I remember it took me some digging and purchasing a few parts before I found the one that fit right. It wasn't even my game, I was trying to restore a Zaxxon for my brother.

I admire the fact that you can admit to having a brother who owns a Zaxxon. Good for you. :001_sbiggrin:
