Hey, tried searching for values on KI, but I'm coming up empty handed. I found a guy who is selling KI in pretty good condition not far from me, but I would like to know how much the game goes for at dealer auctions before I take the plunge - or just how much I should expect to pay for a good condition KI. Anybody recall how much these tend to go for?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I would say a KI in good condition in a dedicated cab would run $450 - $600+. A working PCB alone goes for about $250.

As with ALL price check threads

It DEPENDS.

Condition, location, replay value, etc etc etc.

I bought mine at an auction and paid $700.00 for it, but...

I knew the op, the game hadn't moved in 17 years, it had absolutely pristine side art (Looks brand new), all I had to do was replace the joysticks.

Did I overpay? Maybe, to me I am happy with it, I played this game 17 years ago, this very game and was most likely the first to play it...it held sentimental vaalue as well. So for me I am happy with what I paid for it.

Now onto you, how much is it worth to YOU? That is entirely up to you to decide.

I have seen them sell for $150.00, all the way to $2000.00, like I said in the beginning...IT DEPENDS!

You have regular stock KI boards and enchanced kits with the SD card instead of a hard drive. Enhanced kits are more expensive obviously.

Boards ALONE will go from 300-500 on ebay. Same thing for KI2.

Cabinets don't go for $400 anymore. Boards alone are close to that.

They would sell on ebay all day for $750, so closer to $1000 is about the retail price for KI. KI2 I just sold one for $850 but it was minty.

KI worth

I think it depends on your location. I bought mine for $700 off a guy on Craigslist as he was moving to Germany and didnt want to take it with him. It was $700 and is the nicest one I have ever seen, looks like it never saw a arcade, pretty mint condition. I would say retail price on a mint condition KI is $1200-$1500 in my area. I love mine, dont plan on ever selling it.

Why is KI and KI2 prices so much higher than other fighting games? Really...it's just another fighting game. The KI cabinet art is cool but it's STILL a fighting game.

Is it perhaps that so many were converted by ops and overall it was a sleeper of a game that has caused low numbers and low supply.

I don't care for fighting games so i didn't follow the KI wave when it hit... Who can break down 'why' this game's value is what it is?

Why can't I say "it's just a crappy laser game" or "it's just a shitty classic game" when games that have values that shouldn't be there are there?

KI is in demand because the only home version of KI (original) was SNES and it's not as solid of a game.

KI was HUGE when it was in arcades. There are definitely not low numbers on this cabinet, a lot of them were converted over, and that's why it's in demand. Fighting games have collectors as well. It's not limited to just "classics" or "pinballs" with value.

I have laser games and classics and some of them i never understood why the value is there but like anything if people want something and the demand is there for it, the value will go up.

Back in 2002 I saw the surge starting with the demand for fighting games. It was only a matter of time before the fighters window of opportunity began and collectors wanted pieces of their past. I knew I wouldn't be seeking fighters but in all my dealings with games both collecting personally and through Blast from the Past, KI was never a game that was seen much. I think we had 1 during the time between 97-02.

As I said, the art on KI is cool.... it's a bit different than the typical MK or SF fighters which i think makes it kinda oddball and therefore uniquely worth collecting. I do like how the hard drives have been replaced with cards... now only if more cabinets would surface and the value could drop a bit.

Laser games weren't out for as long as fighters, their numbers were far less, so i can understand the value associated with them. That being said, some lasers retain a higher value than others so I guess it's all the same after a while and applicable to other genres.

Hey, thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it. The guy selling has it at $750. I've bought from him before and I trust him (fixed issues with one of the games I bought from him at no charge), so I guess I should snap as soon as I drive by him again.

And yeah - I feel like the biggest thing going for KI is the lack of a great port, as well as how huge it was back then.
