This is my first post, and let me start off by thanking all of the members for the wealth of information that they provide to an arcade noob like me. The eagerness to help one another amazes me.
That being said, I recently purchased a near mint dedicated Killer Instinct for 200$, that in my opinion, was a great deal. I went to play test it today and everything was running smooth as butter. I turned off the cab and opened the cp to blow out some of the cobwebs, closed it up, turned it on and now it's playing blind. I believe the monitor is a WGK7400. I inspected visually for any burns or disconnected wires and didn't seem to notice anything strange. To be honest I'm burnt out on troubleshooting and reading technical data that at this point in time is way over my head. So I'm asking if there are any members near Joliet/Plainfield Illinois area that I could pay to come and check out the cab, and hopefully figure out what the heck is wrong with the thing. If not if anyone in my area knows any good repair guys to call.

welcome aboard. I'm rather close to you, but my availability is extremely limited due to work.

if it's a K7400 as you say, this is a rather common problem. though I encourage you get a picture of your monitor chassis just to be sure.

first thing you can try though is turning the Screen knob on the flyback down while it's off, then powering up. if the CRT fires up and you see neck glow again, then it's just a case of it going into HV shutdown, and the first step to correcting it is installing new caps. then you have to go through a variety of other silly shit to make sure your B+ is adjusted right, which isn't as easy as it may sound. WG plastered the B+ Adj. and X-Ray Protect pots with epoxy, 9 times out of 10 you'll probably wind up breaking the whole pot, I don't remember the value of the B+ one off hand, I think it's a 1k ohm, but you're probably better off just replacing it with a new one before attempting that step.

first confirm you have a K7400 first. dedicated Killer Instinct did not ship with those, they either came with a K7000 or a Hantarex Polo.

I kind of think that the yellow goo coming out of the flyback might be the problem.

That would be hot glue. To keep the knob from being turned.

But, the flyback does appear to have a hairline crack above the FOCUS pot (from the picture anyway, hard to tell, it's out of focus).

Chad will get it fixed for you though.
