Killer Instinct (KI) Restoration (advice needed please)

I picked up a KI cabinet with a KI2 PCB inside. Overall for the price I paid it seems to be in decent shape. I plan on doing a pretty extensive restore on the outside. Fixing it up and updating it.

I will post before pics once my domain provider get an issue fixed.

I do have a few questions:

Seller informed me that the unit will randomly beep then restart, and sometime just "hang" and a blue screen and keep beeping every few seconds until the unit is restarted. I didn't have an issue for the first few days and was thinking maybe it was his house wiring or something. Then it happened. Unit restarted once on it's own and was fine. Another time it was "hung" on the blue srcreen beeping every few seconds until I turned the unit off. He said it might be the PSU. I ordered a new one which should be here in a few days. I wanted to check with KLOV and see what others had to say about it?

Two small issues with the monitor (25K2193 / U2000).
1) At the top near the left corner, there is a purplish mark like a magnet or something got close.
2) The monitor has like 7 lines across the top going horizontally.

I have order the U2000 cap kit and but wanted to see if anyone might have any other ideas on what the two issues could be and how to correct them?

I have two other issues / questions but I will wait until I can get the pictures posted.

As I stated above it's a KI cabinet with KI2 PCB. I am looking for a 6 - in - 1 Jamma extension PCB and KI PCB so that I can switch between both games. I want to get a 6 in 1 in case I want to add more PCBs into the cabinet.

I found a 6 - in - 1 Jamma extension PCB at http://www.arcademvs.com/ARCADE_ACESSERIOR.htm for $90 shipped. Has anyone dealt with them before ? $90 shipped is the best price I have found...

Also does anyone have info on the -5v wire that needs to be added to the Jamma extension PCBs for the KI/MK and other games that require there to be a -5v wire for the switching to work correctly?

I am going to order a KI marquee, and the CPO front/sides from www.gameongrafix.com.

I plan on using wood bondo to fix the cabinet. I would like to touch up the side art and was wondering what would be the best way to do this? Most of the issues are on the black / edging and if I am going to be using bondo it will need to be painted as well. I would like to get it as nice as possible. I have seen people use an air paint spray gun, would this be the "best" option?

Sorry for the long post, I am just excited about getting started on this project...

First off Congrats on getting a KI Cab.. I've been looking for some time and well the closest thing I can do is build one or convert one.

Is the fan working properly? Also is it at a proper angle to cool the boards along with the hard drive?

You could always try to degauss the screen see if that purple mark goes away? A Cap kit would probably fix the rest of the problems thou.

I don't have any knowledge of the 6 in 1 switcher or the gameongrafix art. But I would love to see how the graphics turn out. It may be what I use in the future if/when I build a cab.

Did you try searching the forums for anyone selling a 6 in 1 lately? I know i've seen a few posts, but not sure how old they are or if it was sold.

Once you get started thou I would love to see the progress. I have yet to tackle any restoration jobs.

I would get rid of that hdd and pick up one of chads ide modules http://arcadecup.com they work great. He also works on ki boards, he fixed my ki2 board. I got a ki1 cab also that needs some work done, was thinking of picking up new side art for it at gameongrafix.

Yes the fan is working properly and is factory mounted / positioned. The unit does have the KI2 flash. Sorry I forgot to mention that above and since I don't have the pics up yet you could not see that...

I did a quick search on the forum for a 6 in 1 but didn't find much.

I plan on taking pics along the way and posting them.

Yeah I forgot to mention in my first post that it came with the KI2 flash. I have the orig KI2 HD but don't know it works or not. I don't plan on using it but it's kinda cool to have it.

Thanks for the URL, I will have to check them out. I have looked around on http://www.thekillerinstinctproject.com/. When I found a KI PCB and if it needed a flash I would have been picking one up.

How about some photos?

As soon as my domain provider gets the issue fix I will be posting some pics. Right now I have about 60 of them. I already have them FTP'd to my site, I just can't seem to access them as there is a problem with the file listing on my KI subdomain.

Wise choice getting new power supply. Make sure you have 5.2vdc at the jamma edge (not at the psu)

I'm a fan of gameongrafix, great products.

Pics !!!

The white plug in the bottom right appears to be the coin door switch but I can't seem to find where it would plug into.

There is also a silver wire just hanging there I believe maybe it was grounded to the top coin door (2nd pic) ??

gray strap goes to the control panel to protect the machine from electrical shocks as well as protecting the player. (just pull one of the small nuts from one of the studs and put it on)

that other 4 pin connector looks like it leads to a lockout switch on the door (basically when the door is open the game goes off).. (which is strange as you need to open the door to access the test/service/volume switch). there's a spot for this but it's not needed.

Not a bad looking machine, i've seen worse. That control panel box just needs a little nail gun work, patch the front where the security bar was and a little touch up on the sides, replace the P1 stick and it'll be pretty nice.

I believe there's a spot on the PCB that this hooks to but it's been a while since i've been around a KI machine.

Thanks for the reply Broodwich, I can just attach the ground to one of the bottom hinge studs ?

When I am in the diag screen all switches work except for the "Door" and I was thinking it was that switch.

I need to work on the control panel box, might even replace that back brace as both sides seems to be messed up. I also need to fix the front right side as they put screws in it for some reason. I am also going to replace both joysticks along with all of the buttons.
