Killer Instinct Coming to xboxONE?

KI3 cab

I'm not seeing a promotional arcade cabinet in that link? I'm assuming you don't mean the viewlix...

Nope. Please actually read the thread.

If you want to be technical it is Vewlix and yes...that is what I meant. You can't tell me it even comes close to the real thing. Killer Instinct in a japan inspired cabinet is a terrible sight to see. I don't know why everyone wants to sit down and play. It's an arcade machine...get on your feet and play like an American. What happened to the good old competition sticks? How has Sanwa become the fighting standard? Does everyone have small petite hands? This is done the right way. http://www.trmk.org/images/mk9/gga_mk_cabinet_1.jpg

dude it's in that viewlix because it's a madcatz event so their cabinet uses two of their xbox one TE fight sticks as the control panel. It in no way shape or form was an attempt to create a promotional throwback arcade cabinet

I guess it is just wishful thinking. Maybe I'll make one for myself. :)

sorry it's about $40 for an incomplete game and another $40 to get more characters and who knows what any additional modes beyond online multiplayer will cost you. Like I said I miss paying $60 for a complete game with an arcade story mode....

$40 is if you want a bunch of extras like the emulated KI1 arcade version and stupid alternate costumes.

it's only $20 for the first 8 fighters and all the game modes... if you bothered to take a look at the pricing guide I posted. Here's a more detailed chart:

Also I'd hardly call the game incomplete. it's got a small roster for sure, but everything else about the game is ever much as complete as any other fighting game. You can't hate on that for $20 and not look like you're stretching for reasons to bash it.

I've been playing this non-stop since Friday, it's really fantastic and the training mode is without question the best I've ever seen in any fighting game. They totally break down all the intricacies of the game mechanics at the level you'd see professional tournament competitors taking advantage of.

This game feels like they made every effort to make something that would be desirable to the FGC, but the barrier of entry is incredibly low too, beginners can pickup and play and not feel like they're completely hopeless.

Yeah the connection KI online is really really good. Been using a gamepad but got tired of waiting for Madcatz to ship out those KI arcade sticks. Got my buddy to padhack an xbox one controller. Getting the other one running tonight or tomorrow.

Nice - I wish I had time to put together accustom controller... I've been waiting to dive into the new KI until the madCatz arrives. By the time it gets here the rest of the world will be far more advanced than I in the game. I just cant stand using the control pad. very cool to see it running in your cab. Looks great!

I got this back a week or so ago:

lost all interest in the Xbox1 and it's controllers. (fortunately for my wallet)

Glad everyone else seems to be enjoying it.

Nothing beats the original arcade machines.

I will say that the new KI has me thoroughly entertained though. despite the lack of an arcade stick the XB1 gamepads are fantastic... they finally go the d-pad right, and dare I say it's actually better than Sony or Nintendo's d-pad now.

That's a bold statement. Sony's has its issues imo (some don't like how it's broken up), but I've always considered Nintendo's to be best.

I have not held an XB1 controller yet. Probably won't for the foreseeable future.

Indeed it is bold but I stand by that I enjoy the new D-pad more than any other controller I've used (and I was practically the chairman of the Xbox D-pad hate club).

Sony and Nintendo's D-Pads have always been accurate, which is obviously the most important part.

Sony's D-pads have always had the problem that they're very stiff, the resistance is higher than normal and coupled with the broken up design would wreck havoc on your thumb.

Nintendo's D-pads have always been the best, and most consistent, albeit a little on the small side, Sega's (pre Dreamcast) D-Pads have always been great but a little on the big side.

The problem with the old Xbox D-Pads was that they were too tall, it was like putting a quarter on a pea, and it didn't help that the opening in the plastic housing was too small and sometimes you'd push the button and it would hit the housing before registering the push.

The new D-Pad is extremely shallow, no longer a quarter on a pea, you're now dealing with a quarter on a pin head, or something even smaller, the deflection is less than you even get with a Sony or Nintendo D-Pad. This has the effect that the D-pad is deadly accurate, and where the old pad would constantly push "right-up" or "right-down" when you were just trying to push "right", it's nearly impossible to get the new d-pad to mus-interpret even when intentionally trying to muck it up.

The next thing is that the d-pad is actually "clickly" you push the button and you can actually hear a small "click" similar to the satisfying click you'd get with an arcade microswtich, the actual motion on the d-pad is somewhat clickly too, there's no mistake when you have or have not pushed it, there's no mushy/rubbery feeling like you get with other d-pads.

Finally the size and shape of the thing are IMO perfect. The size of the pad is a smidge larger than the Sony d-pads, but not nearly as large as the old Sega d-pads... the actual pad itself is a proper + shape as opposed to the disc the MS used to use and it's very smooth and very kind to the skin on your thumb... unlike the callus building hard edges of the Nintendo and Sony D-pads.

Obviously a lot of this is preference and opinion, but I honestly couldn't have asked for a better d-pad.

I was gonna just quit but let's just say my complaints are about two things: #1. The "freeium model" that this game has and #2. the lack of content at launch(basically it's incomplete game because of this). Here we go:

what you currently get for paying the season 1 price:
1. Six characters with two still to be released later
2. A limited tutorial mode that only uses Jago and makes no attempt to teach you any of the other characters
3. A survival mode that has you fighting said 6-8 characters over and over
4. Vs. Mode

Things that SHOULD be there to have a complete game but are currently MIA:
1. All 16 characters (planned) with a possible 32 overall if there is a "season 3"
2. Arcade mode/Story mode [currently planned for a March release]
3. An advanced tutorial mode that can teach you about any character that you have access to (unknown if they even have plans for this)

Pricing-
as far as I know this could end up costing people at least $80 for something that should just be released on a disk for $60 or less. The price of buying the planned Arcade mode is unknown but could be anywhere from $5-$20 and they could even charge you for updates to this mode when new characters are released.

The second gen Saturn dpads were the best period. Well the thumb stick on the neo Geo pocket color edges it out.

That was my opinion too until using the Xbox One controller. I even built an adapter to use Sega Saturn pads on my Xbox 360.

I agree with everything you've listed except your complaint on the tutorial mode.

The tutorial mode isn't there to teach you the special moves of a specific character the way most game tutorials work. Instead it teaches you how to understand and exploit fighting game mechanics in way that not only transcends the character you're using but also in many ways transcends the game you're playing. Many of the things that the tutorial mode teaches you can be applied to other games like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, or even the classic KIs.

I see it like teaching someone how to drive a car and rather than just saying "here's a steering wheel and here are the pedals" it's going into depth about suspension mechanics and driving line theory... meanwhile your complaint is more along the lines of the fact they taught you this on a Porsche and they should have given you the option to learn on any car.

Sure most of the moves your actually performing are specific to Jago but the actual "lesson" isn't about Jago's moves, it's about how fighting games work on a technical level.

Despite the fact that most of my complaints about this game are the same as yours it's not stopping me from enjoying the hell out of this game (or at least what's been released of it). If I could go back in time I'd still gladly buy an Xbox One over again just to play it... but then again, I'm a huge KI fan.

Are you seriously complaining about a $20 game.

1) Just having these 6 playable characters which are quite unique & plays differently compare to crappy games like SFIV or Marvel 3 with a huge cast...You can really tell the makers knew what they were doing & making this a truly honest fighter. You lose because the person out meta.

2) I never play story mode/arcade mode unless im trying to unlock a character. Again this is a $20 game. Once its release its probably going to be bare bones w/ a final boss. Nothing comprehensive like say MK9 or Injustice.

3) This is probably the most comprehensive tutorial in a fighting game ever made. It pretty much teaches you the game mechanics, the basics, mixups, & advance combos...You can apply this to all the characters. Hit up training mode(the lab) & experiment with your character.

I was a scrubby KI fan back in the day & im scrubby now. Well worth getting an xb1 for this...

I believe you missed the point. What you get for $20 is basically what I call "Final beta test version #1" and because of this about half the game and characters are MIA since it has yet to be released. Also this is not a $20 game rather is a $20+ Unknown infinity $$$ game(who knows how much the rest of it is gonna cost you to have a true full version?).

It's not cool to get a game that should be more than it is out of the gate and that you know that the missing content actually exists. I'm not saying what you get is bad...I'm just saying that stuff that should be there is missing. So far the stuff that is missing I'll list below:

1. Arcade Mode- this is already in the works for a March release but any gamer worth his salt knows this is a staple of fighting games weather or not they even mess with it. Even if there are no unlocks some players use it for practice. Honestly you can only play so much survival mode before getting totally bored....

2. Missing characters- as I am writing this more of the first set of eight characters is being released but for now you get a meager six characters out of a planned sixteen. I'm not saying that a ton of characters is better but what I am saying is that you should have had all of them right out of the gate instead of this piecemeal garbage.

No, what you get RIGHT NOW for $20 is a 6 character version of the game. With no additional money you will get 2 more characters in the next couple of months and all game modes. I would much rather have characters released when they are tuned properly instead of having all characters available day one and a crappy game.

If I purchase the Ultra Edition ($39.99) then I agree it should be for all characters as they are released regardless if they are "Season 1, 2, 3, . . ." or whatever.

I'm still happy that KI is back regardless of how long it's development into a "final version" takes.
