fucking... tiered pricing for a game? what the christ is this shit
'costumes and accessory packs'
boys not so different from girls after all
just buy me a motherfucking KI arcade cabinet
I thought the complete game is now free?
you can download the game for free and play as Jago online. Should you decide you want to buy one or two characters, you can do so at $5 each (which is about the average price for DLC fighting game characters). If you want all eight currently planned characters (six at launch), you can pay $20 for the next tier. The "Ultra Edition" will cost you $40, and will net you eight characters, accessory packs, costumes, and the original Killer Instinct game in arcade form.
Don't be surprised if you see more and more games released like this over the next few years. It's like they're trying to go the 'mobile' pricing structure route or something.
I can see some benefits to this sort of structure, but I think they're doing it wrong in this case with the pricing being a bit much.
Then again, it's just opinion. Similar routes have worked for games over the last few years with the whole season pass thing.
Well, I meant more in terms of don't be surprised if it's the majority of games. It's getting close, but I wouldn't say it's the standard yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is the standard in another couple of years.Lots of games are ALREADY doing that... it's the whole "free to play" business model that started with PC and were popularized by facebook and mobile games
The PS4 is full of these F2P games too, a good number of the launch titles work that way.
KI isn't even the first fighting game to try it, Dead or Alive did it first.

It's a good deal if you're a Jago main
Otherwise you're still only paying $20 for 8 characters right? So say there are two more seasons at the same price, you've still only just then topped out at normal msrp, versus another fighting game (say Injustice) where you start out at full msrp *then* pay on top of that to buy the new characters.
Of course, the whole thing still seems odd to me and I don't think this is the pricing setup they should have done for two main reasons - 1. They are an untested company when it comes to fighting games so they have a lot to prove, and 2. Killer Instinct is an old IP that has been dormant for a long time so your built-in audience is going to be smaller than the more popular series' that have had continued output throughout the years.
Buy a "Day One" Live Gold card and get "Shadow Jago" for free
Now they have a "pin ultimate" edition for $59.99 which gets you the full 8 character game plus a couple of pins and a collectors case/book which is good for just the pins since there is no DVD.
Then you need that $200 joystick to play it properly
Ugh. Anyone want to trade an XBOX One for my dedicated KI2?
8 characters for the full game?
What is this, 1991?
Just lamenting the cost to get playing the new KI.
Do you really think I know all this info on the new KI and didn't know the XB1 isn't released yet?
It's a "free to play" model which means they'll slowly trickle out new characters as time goes on.
at release there will actually only be 6 fighters available.
2 more have been unveiled and the have plans to release at least 16, or as many as 24 depending on how well the first 16 sell.
Rare and Double Helix made a mistake screwing with KI. Just look at the promotional arcade cabinet...http://madcatz.com/e3-2013-killer-instinct/
The machine is hideous. Where is the side art? These people should have at least used a Midway style cabinet. I'm sure the local arcade would have given these guys a Midway. I'm going to pretend this game does not exist much like Robcop 3.
Nope. Please actually read the thread.so you're paying $60 for an incomplete game with probably another $100+ to actually have the real game. Also for an added bonus there's no arcade mode or story mode for your $60
