does anyone know how big the hard drives were for this game? cause im making a backup of mine and I dont think it is the original harddrive as it seems to big for the time that the game came out and for some reason it has 2 partitions on there.

I guess I will find out with mame when its done.

Im pretty sure its a 512 meg for KI2. KI 1 used a 256mb drive.
I think I have one or two working originals if you need one.
Keep in mind that if you are not using an original drive you will need to burn a new "anyIDE" boot rom for it to work.

the label on the drive says 420mb or so and my computer shows it as a 32gig hard drive which is really strange, also the heads and cylinders on the label are different than what the chd file shows on the cmd window

EDIT heres what the label says

i have another quick question and sorry for all the questions but how do i find out what version my pcb is, like 1.0,1.1 etc

I think you mean "what version is my boot rom?". Just go into the test menu and it will show right at the top.

you woulnt by chance know why, when i hook the hard drive up to my computer it comes on but when i hook it up the board and then plug it into a jamma harness it does not come on, does that mean something is wrong with the hard drive or the board?

Could be board or hard drive or power supply or anything. Also the hard drive has jumpers that have to be set correctly to work in the game!

Yeah, what he said. It has to be set as master for the KI2 board to recognize it. Perhaps you switched it to slave when you hooked it up to your PC? Was it working properly before you removed it to make a backup?

no i didnt change any jumpers at all, there was none when i got the board and hd, i can get some from some old motherboards, which pins do i need to jump to set it to master?

I'd help ya if my KI2 board and HDD weren't in storage.

I know you're working on getting your HDD working, but might I suggest switching to a compact flash setup. It will speed loading and save your original HDD.

I would love to do that but for now I can not :( also i need to figure out why the hard drive is not getting power when hooked up, could it also be the jamma harness i have since it was a custom job done by the previous owner, i can take pictures tomorrow if anyone wants to see the current pinout

If there are no jumpers on your hard drive then it defaults to master. Is it an original KI2 laptop size drive (ST9420AG)? Was it working before you made the backup? How do you know there is no power to the drive? The laptop drive runs on +5V on pins 41 & 42 and GND on pin 43 so you could always check it there and check the +5V coming off the JAMMA connector.

when I connect the drive to my computer I can hear it power up but when I plug the board into the jamma i cant hear anything, though maybe its different between the two

If you want help, answer the questions I already asked. Are you sure you are connecting the hard drive to the pcb correctly?

yes i am sure, there is no other way to connect the ide cable due to the notch in the connector side, i also get a red light on the pcb but all i hear from the speaker is a bing sound
