Someone had converted this KI1 cab into a KI2, and I'm trying to reverse it.

I've removed the top layer of stickers over the KI2 cpo (characters, button labels) and am now down to the bottom layer of overlay. It was nice to find a perfectly intact KI1 cpo underneath it, but I'm worried about the rest of this removal.

The sticky film is really thin, and doesn't come up easy. I've been using fingernails but it's super slow, complicated around the button holes, and leaves the residue on the KI1 overlay.

Anybody have any magic solutions on how best to get this stuff up? Completely removing the KI2 overlay and residue while keeping the KI1 cpo in reusable shape?

Thanks in advance!

denatured alcohol

if that won't work

heat gun (extremely carefully)

the denatured alcohol should work fine tho.

Could grab a spray bottle of goo gone, spray it on, let it sit 5 minutes, and use the scraper to scrape off the goo. Worked great for me when I was removing the gauntlet 2 and crime fighters CPOs that had been applied over the gauntlet cpo. Just need to be careful around button holes and the edges, don't really want the goo gone seeping underneath and loosening up the original overlay.

Lost cause. You should give up and sell me the CP to recoup some of your sanity. :D

yes sell it to rob so he can sell it to me :D

hi buddy :) how u been

whoa all you need is the alcohol and heat gun

Soon as I finish the the CP, you can buy it! Along with the rest of the cabinet!

Comes with additional KI2 marquee, manual, PROMS, and hard drive, should you wanna upgrade the board.

Doing great Brood! It's good to be missed!

Lemme hijack my own thread: If selling this thing locally, how much should a KI1 fetch? It's missing back door and cam locks, which I can easily provide if it makes that big of a difference. New button switches, cpo plexi, and CF card conversion. Plus the mentioned extras.

heh that was kinda directed at treborlicec but HI to you too :D :D

btw i forgot a plastic/metal scraper helps also but isn't needed.

it's all a matter of what someone wants to pay, the missing cams isn't a huge thing, the backdoor missing.... that could be a pain for some but not for those who know how to use a router. i'd say you should be able to pull $500-700 or more out of it depending on the condition of the cab.

I have used goo gone to so so results, in the past. I now spray goo gone and let sit for 15-20 then take a sharp razor blade and carefully scrape up pieces to then pull as much as I can pull up with my fingers. Its tedious but in the end well worth the efforts.

I'd work best with some practical instruction on how to do this, and not ruin the KI1 cpo.

Do I just dab the denatured alcohol on a rag and wipe the entire panel down, then let it set 5 minutes before going after it with a plastic scraper (i'll try w/o heat gun first)? Or do I dowse the whole cpo pretty good, let it set longer, then scrape carefully?

Thanks for the direction, guys!

Crap, posted this as ctozzi posted his bit.

Oh well, I was feeling socially awkward anyway from Brood's "hello". It's like when someone's waving at you, and you wave back, but they were actually waving at the person behind you... queue up one of those smileys that slaps himself in the face.

heh :D

ok what i do is use the denatured alcohol to remove the adhesive that's left behind, you don't want to leave it sitting on there to long as you could get some not so wanted results while your not watching.

heat gun will help you remove the majority denatured on a rag w/ slight elbow grease will make it pristine. a test spot is always best as you wouldn't want to risk removing any of the actual art/ink (tho this shouldn't be an issue with 100% rubbing alcohol).

Thought I'd post some pics of the process.

I went and bought a solid plastic paint scraper from Home Depot as I picked up the denatured alcohol. That little scraper did perfect work of what was left! Now only to remove the residue!

I was going to mention a plastic scraper for the lil sticky bits but seems you read my mind. that denatured is going to work wonders on that adhesive.
