ok so i got a ki2 board and hd from ebay it comes up with a rolling blue screen i reset all the chips still got the blue screen so i got a cf card conversion and boot rom and i am still getting the blue screen any help would be great

thanks in advance

kevin

I had this problem with my RevX boot rom. fortunately I had an extra that I had reprogrammed, and that fixed it.

I'm going to assume you don't have an original drive/U98 rom, but if you do try those first to see if it goes away.

i do have the the original u98 still blue screen with the original and the new cf boot rom with no rom i get a white lined screen the original hd spins up and the cf didnt fix it i have no clue whats wrong

that sounds deep.

there's a red LED on the board for disk activity, does that light up at all? (your CF should have one too)

getting good +5V?

First, make sure the chip in this picture is labeled KI2. If its not, you have a KI 1 board trying to run KI 2 without the HD interface adapter.

Verify your +5
Make sure the eprom select jumper is set to 4meg roms. I bought an ebay board once and it was missing the jumper...thats all that was wrong with the board.

When you added the cf card did you reuse the original cable? If so, possible bad cable. I always use the cf adapters that plug directly into the board and eliminate the cable.

Other common problems are bad processor, and surface mount components needing to be reflowed.

Try pressing on various chips and applying some pressure while reseting the board each time, sometimes its just a loose chip.

I heard that the processors can break loose a few legs to create similar problems.

start by reflowing the CPU.

there's some other "Altera" surface mount chips on there too, try inspecting the legs on all surface mount chips with a magnifying glass.

I seem to recall seeing someone on ebay auctioning some boards off saying they refurb them. not like that'll help any cause they're expired now.

there's some guys on here that can do those kinds of jobs though if need be.

I remember seeing those boards for sale on eBay.

He called them ultra killer instincts if I recall, he had the flash

drive and mention reflow of the CPU as part of his routine

to increase reliability . Some people may not know that you need

a fan blowing on that CPU heatsink or it won't last long. Maybe

that's what happened here. The board may have overheated sometime

in it's service life before you got it. Also sometimes the fan dies and takes pcb

with it . A quick way to test for loose chips is by flexing the board very slighty

while it's powered up and watch for it to boot.

lots of people remove the fans cause they're "too loud" after installing a CF replacement, which I think is stupid. I kept mine in my KI1 and KI2. I actually gave the KI1 one a bath, cause it looked like it's been in use since the day it was made. :p

I had a board that gave the white line pattern no matter what. eventually sold it and a CPU-less board for parts.

I hope mine last. lol

well maybe some one could help me with this.....

Which is the correct one to use???

Killer Instinct project says to use this code in chdman:
To transfer the KI2 hard drive image to your physical disk, type: chdman32 -extract kinst2.chd \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2

but its different from other sites that use this one and compile with the dolly program:

If you follow the instructions on the KI project page for chdman it will work. I have done several KI CF conversions with it.
