Early Sunday at CAX, I was informed my Kick was off and seemed not to turn on. Jkoolpe happened to be walking by at the same time so we checked it out. When we opened the back, the smell of burning something was super intense. It didnt smell like burning electronics but a mixture of burning wood and something really explainable.
It was pretty dark and all I saw was charred wire on the power brick. We discussed the stink and debated what it could be while I buttoned it up to look at later.
Fast forward to yesterday. I went back to the hall to pick up the last 5 games. I have the Kick on the truck, open it up to find this:
Charro!
Among the charred goodness was some of this [the plastic shield, I think]:
and part of the connector?
CA Extreme closeup. Notice the charred [biological?] blob on the bottom. Also, the connector has blued from heat
:
Before I had taken the pics, there seemed to be an abundance of carbonized something that floated away with the wind. The fuse didnt even blow. The blue lead is off of the AC filter then a piggy backed white lead going to the fuse block which goes back to blue up to the power switch. The white piggyback is not in the schematics and it looks sort of factoryish - who knows.
I cut off some of the charred white wire and crammed it in the blue connector to test the game:
Success!
I think an insect [roach?] was in the wrong place at the wrong time and electrocuted itself and cooked. It certainly would explain the smell.
