Kick Plate Decal From Phoenixarcade

I just thought I'd post one of the reasons that you want to deal with a guy like Darin at Phoenix Arcade. I attached a photo I sent to that other place of the original Midway artwork (left) vs his crappola (right). Even the colors were 10 shades off.

Darin's stuff is so good, there's no point in posting it; it'd look just like the original. If you're wondering who that grainy, lousy stuff came from, think of the letters I and A.

I and A? I don't get it.

I really didn't think inkjet could look THAT bad.

You should post the guy's name.... I don't care to deal with people whose first reaction when something doesn't go exactly their way is to threaten.

No shit! I couldn't agree more. Drama queens are not worth the hassle.

That guy is a tool..he's going to come to your house for a 29 dollar decal...I would have invited him to come on down.. but that is just me..you did the right thing...I'm sure you just wanted him to go away....and please...even newbies...at least get the game right that your placing the decal on for goodness sake..

LOL... The guy at IA probably used up half an ink cartridge printing that. That photo I took is actually in focus--that's how blurry the decal was. You can count the resolution dots so I'm thinking it was a small bmp/jpg/tif (non-vector) image blown up until it was about 15 DPI. The colors and graphics were entirely wrong, the edges were crumbling, it was scratched, cracked, had ink flaws (spatter) everywhere, the stock had a canvas-like grain pattern, it was thinner than proscuitto... so other than like eight things, it was great.

Lesson learned. And quality stuff like Darin's only costs a little more.

BTW, I never bothered to send it back. Anybody who wants those, PM me. The price is free + shipping, but I might be willing to come down even more off that price. They'd be great for... um... maybe your kid's cardboard box playhouse?

As far as that dude mixing up Gorgar and Galaga, I own both and I get them confused all the time. But the kickplate on Gorgar was hard to kick. Me hurt!

Guys I always try to go the extra mile in helping people if they had a problem with an order. Almost 10 years in business and over 5000 unique customers.

I have all the emails between me and this guy.

First off, he is quite new at this. He asked me in email if he should remove the old Galaga kickplate decal first. Here it is "When I remove the kick plate decal from my Gorgar, is it best to use a heat gun? Have you received my check yet? It would have been for $29.00."

Now, he did email me to tell me there were creases in the artwork. I asked him for a photo of the decal because creases do come out. But not all of them. I told him I would be able to tell by a photo. He says in email that he doesnt have a digital camera. I ask him if the box is damaged, he never replied. In 4 emails I clearly ask him for a photo of the decal and a description of the box. He refused. Here is what he says: "I have no means in which to send you a picture. I do not have a digital camera. The decal could not have left your business in perfect condition and I receive it just 60 minutes ago with creases in it."

Here is what he asked for specifically:"Mail me our another decal tomorrow, and have a label in the box to ship this one back to you, or mail me back a check for $29.00. If you do not take care of this for me, I am not only going to register a complaint against you with the BBB, I will also post on every arcade forum on the Internet, starting with KLOV, what a POS you are, not standing behind your products." and " If you decide not do honor my request, I will return this damaged merchandise to you in person. I travel to Indiana and Kentucky several times a year, and I am quite familiar with Crown Point, Indiana."

Originally he called me to order a kickplate decal. I didnt have any broken sets at the moment but I broke one for him and told him so. He gets his decal and likely mishandled it and creased it. They'd probably come out but I cant say for sure because he wont send me a pic since he claims he doesnt own a digital camera. He keeps emailing me babble and threatens to come to my house. It makes no sense to send someone a replacement free of charge if they wont show me whats wrong.

Bottom line, I did send a replacement free of charge and ate the other one. Not sure what you guys would have done without any proof. You be the judge

You did the right thing Darin even though this buyer didn't have a leg to stand on. You have to prove that the decal is creased in my opinion. I can't believe someone will spend $$ on replacement artwork but can't find $50 to buy a Digital Camera. Actually I take that back, I can believe it and most likely there was nothing wrong with the art.

The buyer has done nothing but put himself/herself on a black list and will not be getting any more art. Hopefully the rest of KLOV takes notice and puts this person on their black lists as well. Take note OP, someone who threatens someone like you have has no business being in this community nor deserves any help from anyone period.

I will echo what the others have said, I have bought art from Darin for years and he has always been 100% customer focused. His products speak for themselves.

Hi all,

I've ordered plenty of sideart/cpo over the years from most every provider of artwork. Some have come damaged; some due to poor packaging and some due to bad handling of shippers. However, one thing in common is that I've never seen a REALLY good packaging container for the artwork. I've seen the square tubes, triangle tubes, rarely the round tubes, and sometimes standard boxes, but never anything of the heavy duty sort.

One time, a long time ago, a fellow collector sent me some mylar for my Funhouse playfield. He sent me the mylar in a round cardboard tube where the tube walls are a solid 1/4" thick if not more! You can stand on this thing (I still have this tube after 10+ years for storing artwork).

The fact is, until artwork shippers start using shipping containers of similar quality, there will ALWAYS be a chance that you're going to get damaged artwork, and it seems it'd be a gray area if the person receiving the package could claim it wasn't packaged well enough.

Sure, these containers are probably more expensive. How much would a buyer be willing to pay in addition to get the "guaranteed" container? And how much is it worth for these artwork shippers to get these damage claims off their back?

I wonder if shipping in pvc pipes would be economically viable...

Your post makes me think of: http://www.classicplayfields.com/

You pay for over the top quality packaging, which is necessary for plastics sets, backglasses, and playfields..you wouldn't want to skimp on those. Their system though is very organized and lets you combine X many items for a certain sized box, etc.. really seems to work.

I have ordered a number of things from Darrin and have always loved the quality, just like everyone else here. I would almost think this guy screwed up the installation of the first one and wanted to get another one free.

I'd also like to point out this kickplate decal was double boxed. Ordinarily it wouldnt be double boxed but I had an eerie feeling about this guy after I spoke to him on the phone. Turns out I was right.

Mark, 95% of customers want the cheapest price they can get for the product or shipping. I try to give that to them by shipping as cheap as I can, but still staying within minimum packing guidelines. Damage is gonna happen and I've never had a single claim denied.

A few items I sell/sold I went a little overboard on the packing (because they're odd sized or fragile pieces) and people bitch and moan about the cost of shipping, but the packing materials are calculated in. Yet they're still not happy about it.

Believe me, I hate filing damage claims, packing and shipping the replacement and dealing with rightfully disappointed customers. But its part of the business.

Round tubes roll around and fall off conveyor belts and shelves on trucks. Rarely good for art unless its really small or using a very thick tube you mentioned, but the cost of that is expensive and adds weight.

Galaga Kick Plate Decal Damged

Yes , I did ask for advice from this guy as the best means to remove an old decal. Is this such a crime? I wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly. If you are in business for yourself, I always thought it makes good business sense to offer advice when asked. I guess this approach is below this individual.

Yes, this individual did ask me to send a picture of the damaged decal. I responded by telling him I do not own a digital camera. Shall I post the nasty response I received, telling me that among things, I must be the only person on the face of the earth who does not own a digital camera. I hardly think this is the case.

The decal I received was damaged. I called Phoenixarcade immediately upon opening the box and informed Darin of it's condition. He accused me of damaging it. Clearly, others who have ordered from Phoenixarcade have experienced situations very similar to mine. Why he chose this avenue of response towards me is questionable. Darin, you built your business one costumer at a time, and you can lose it the same way. I suggest you keep this in mind.

Initially, I was very polite and respectful to the owner of Phoenixarcade. I simply wanted to know the best recourse to receive a new Galaga kick plate decal, for the damaged one I received. Darin refused all of my requests, with nasty responses. He did not break up any sets, in order to send me out just a kick plate decal, as a special order. I only asked for the kick plate decal upon speaking with him, as this was the only piece I needed. I guess when the decals come off his printing press, they come out as a complete set of three, and not one at a time. Hmmmmmmm, very interesting.

I had every intention of returning in person, the damaged decal I received from Phoenixarcade, and informed Darin of my intentions. He folded like a cheap accordion, afraid to face the music, and did send me out a new decal. Lesson learned from this clueless individual

If he normally sells the artwork for a game as a set, which he does, he would have the same number of L side, R side, and front pieces printed, whenever they were printed. That seems like common sense.

I believe that you are a little confused with this concept. These are SCREENPRINTED, not magically spit out of a printing press. Darin does all of this at one time, he does not do a print for you when you order. He sinks a large chunk of change to screenprint these all in one shot, while trying to guess how many he should make dependent upon how many he feels he can sell. When he does this for a game like Galaga, he runs the sideart and kickplate art work together. Let's say he runs 200 of each side, well then he is going to run 200 of the kickplate too. Why would he do any differently? He doesn't know who is going to come along and ask for just the kickplate....

Therefore, he broke up a set. It ain't that complicated.....

I think I found the problem.

Could someone highlight on a picture where the kickplate is on a Gorgar... I for the life of me can't find one on mine ;) And my Gorgar was built from the ground up..

I totally agree with you -- I ended up with a damaged set of Missile Command art from Quartercade with creases. I sent pictures with my first request to show the issues to see if anything could be done for me. Someone who wants something resolved should provide as much info as possible so that it will be resolved. Anthony immediately mailed me a replacement set -- even 3 months after I bought it (I just hadn't got to that part of the restore yet and did realized it was damaged until I ready to apply it).

So you surely should have gotten pictures to show the issue. He should have just sent them to you in his first request when he had a problem. Its not unreasonable for you to ask and I think without, not unreasonable to refuse. Its 2011 everyone has a camera, a phone a friend or kid with a phone to take digital pictures...

Glad you helped him but seems like extortion to me and you were accomodating to him just to end it.

*EDIT*

Removed ... this cheap-ass isn't worth the hassle. I think this thread speaks for itself.
