kick man arrives

It appears I have a bad filter assembly on the power brick. I'm getting the unregulated 8v output, but not the unregulated 15v output, yet the inputs (ac) seem to be fine. Hopefully it's as simple as that.

BTW Jeff, how did you like Mouse Trap and Mappy?

I thought Mouse Trap was the better of the two.

Mappy was okay, but just didn't grab me. Mouse Trap is one I'd like to play again... although to get better at it I'd have to memorize which button opened which gate instead of looking at the CP while the bird attacks.

Lol! I tested all the diodes and resistors on the filter assy. Then I started checking voltages at various points. The dang fuse on the filter assy is bad. I looked at it earlier and it appeared to be fine but it is open. And though it calls for a 6A fast blow fuse, the one in there is a 1/2 A slow blow fuse. Yeah, those are more or less equivalent! That should work well!

Hopefully that is the only problem. After a trip to the auto parts store tomorrow, we'll see!

Oh, just giving you a hard time. I don't blame you. If I get really good at fixing a particular board and time permits, I'd probably buy them non-working to fix them and sell them to some needy collector too. :)

Oh. I dont sell them. I am a hoarder, remember.

Mua ha ha. The stereotypical fuse (on the filter assy). Then I had to crank the +5v to 5.3 on the PS in order to get a full 5.0 on the boards. Once I did that, it booted right up! Now I need to rebuild the g07 (video is plugged into my ms pac right now). I'm really excited right now!

Amazing what happens when you check a fuse with a meter instead of just looking at it.;)

Did a "deluxe" rebuild of the g07 last night and tonight, and now it's fully working. A little noisy in the audio though, especially when the buttons are lit.

Good job.

Noisy audio is usually failing caps on the power supply board.

I was figuring it would be power supply related. You are talking about the board and not the brick, right? Hoping to avoid replacing those monster caps on the brick if possible since I'm sure they ain't cheap. :)

Welcome to tthe club. Great game. It gets really fun about the 8th level. It will make you break a sweat.

Yeah, and I gotta drop a high score save chip so those great scores get saved. I haven't looked yet, but I'm hoping it's pretty much the same as my tron with the ability to just drop a ds1220 in there. I prefer these over lithium battery conversions.

Found out Kick Man uses an 8416 rather than a 6116, but that they're compatible. So I dropped in a DS1220 and now I have high scores being saved (battery is cut out, and I prefer this over lithium batteries).
