My Kick has been displaying some graphic issues. Messed up or shifted sprites in sections and when you move the kickman to the center he disappears. I pulled the board to reseat the ROM chips and noticed that on one of the ribbon cables (J5) the last 4 pins had broken away from the board. Not sure if this is causing the graphics problems or not, but it's probably not a good thing. Anyone know what type of connection that is and where to order it? Also, do you suspect this is the cause of the graphics issues?

I guess they couldn't find 24 pin connectors at the time as each ribbon uses a 20 pin connection and a smaller 4 pin connection.

Kick boards have different ribbons than Tron, Spyhunter, etc. You have to solder headders to the board then use the standard MCR ribbon cable replacement.

Actually... those are sorta sockets. The cable will actually pull out of it like a socket, and go back in if you're careful. I'm not sure which connector that is, but IIRC, most of those had the last three pins as ground and the next three pins as power (or maybe vise versa).

My cables were flakey, and the sockets were corroded, so I replaced three of them with a header and socket (then lined the boards up and pressed them together), and the other side with two new cables.

If the rest of the cable is holding up fine, I'd just hack it back together, since replacing the whole think is a pain. A 4 pin machine pin socket would probably work well to replace that chunk. I wouldn't think that's your problem though, since I think it's just power/ground, which is probably feeding through one of the other cables now. I guess it could be causing a voltage drop though, causing your problems... you should definitely check the voltage as part of your troubleshooting anyway.

My kick looks ok but has vertical lines through the red and blue baloons. In talking with another klov'r who had similar problems he said it was his 10v being too low. It wasn't my issue (still don't know what it is) but if those affect the power it sounds like it might do something like that based on our issues... post back on if it makes a dif.

I've got those vertical lines as well. Riptor is hooking me up with the parts I need to repair the ribbon cable. Will let you know if that makes it any better.
