Re: Kick Buttons

sorry I cant help I have a kick and i couldnt get my lights to work on the buttons. It was a couple years ago when i was trying to fix it.

Re: Kick Buttons

Playing the new kick as a kid, I dont remember the buttons being lit.

Do the leads have voltage on them?

Re: Kick Buttons

If I remember correctly those are controlled lamps. There should be a test in the test mode to drive them. If not then I think coining up the game will make them light up or flash, I dont recall which. Since they dont work I would verify that your actually getting a good +12 at the lamps with the load in place (the bulbs) by using a GND on the power supply as your negative test point and checking the +12 on the bulbs when they are supposed to be lit up. Bally/Midway used some strange current limiting circuits that will read fine when theres no load (the bulbs) but as soon as you put them in the +12 takes a dump!

That said, I would put LED's in there if it were me. I know its not factory but fried up broken ass plastic buttons isnt factory either. #161's and #194's create a good amount of heat in that button and the heat will dry out or melt the plastic after time.

Re: Kick Buttons

thanks ... yeah, I don't get it ... I know the bulbs are good and I think the lamp holders are getting +12v ... I measured the voltage by putting the red lead to the metal tab on the lampholder assembly and the black lead to the ground strap attached to the track ball ...

I don't really understand the wiring diagram ... It seems the +12 is fed to the lights and then to the sound i/o board ...

Does this make sense?

Re: Kick Buttons

If your getting the proper readings your bulbs should be lighting up. Id say your either using the wrong bulbs or your sockets are bad.

The operators manual doesnt indicate there is a test ... unfortunately, I can't get the game into test mode because the switch is either not functioning or not wired correctly ...

I believe I tried this, but I will try again ..

I am positive I tested with the bulbs in, but I will validate.

If I can get them working, I may do this ...

Re: Kick Buttons

the buttons were lit on kick. my money would be on bad sockets

ok ... I have to admit I don't understand how these sockets could go bad ... they are nothing more than two metal tabs ... not arguing, just confused ...

any idea where I could pick these up? ... I can't find anything on happ's site that is even close ...

Re: Kick Buttons

you got a pic of the socket? 12V you may be lucky and find it at a mom and pop parts supplier. the sockets get crap and grime over the years and will corrode

Re: Kick Buttons

the kick button lights come from the power supply, and go to pin 23 of j5 on the ssio board. check continuity of the gray-red wire between the socket and J5 pin 23 on the ssio. If you've got continuity, then its a board problem. You can also ground that pin and see if the lights come on. If they do, its a board issue.

Re: Kick Buttons

thanks cdjump ... I was curious as to why the 12volts ran from the supply to the lights and then back into sound i/o board ... the sound i/o board either needs another +12v supply or it controls the lights ... I suspect the latter ...

I will do some more testing and post my results ...
