My buddy, who has a booth in our local flea market, just got a Killer Instinct cabinet in today. Unfortunatley the guys that helped him move it were inexperienced with transporting machines and managed to somehow damage the monitor. I played the machine today and the board is in working condition. The monitor will turn on, but starts to flicker and/or cut off with the slightest bit of vibration or button presses. I checked all connectors for loose connections didn't do a detailed diagnosis as I had no equipment with me. I fear that the neckboard may have been damaged since the lock got broken off the back of the cabinet in transit (the broken lock is located directly behind the neckboard of the monitor). Any ideas? He is debating on selling as is or trying to fix for sale.

are you talking about the monitor losing power?

if you have any picture at all, that's good, that means they didn't trash the tube.

anything else could be any number of different causes.

try pulling the neckboard off, check the pins to make sure none are bent or damaged. depending on what kind of monitor it's got will yield different results... I can tell you a Hantarex Polo will zap the shit out of you if you try handling it after it's just been running. a K7000 will be easy to check.

but anyway, if the pins look fine, and there's not noticeable damage on the neckboard, try putting the neckboard back on carefully.

it's likely the neckboard is just loose. hopefully something that simple.

perhaps someone else can chime in, if the machine worked fine prior to transport, I'd lean towards it being something with the neckboard getting jarred loose. if you had no idea of its condition before, the chassis could have cold solder or something even more complicated.

My buddy said that he tested the machine before buying it and it operated perfectly. This happened in transit somewhere.
Also I noticed that when it would cut off sometimes a ring of colors would remain in the center of the screen as it would struggle to come back on.
I have never worked on a KI machine before. What is the small circuit board located right below the screen, near the center of the back of the control panel?

that would be the remote adjustment board. that needs to be connected in order for the monitor to operate properly.
