Doing some repairs on m KI2 cabinet and I noticed that the speakers are 4 ohm...from what I see in the manual they are listed as 8 ohm. Can anyone confirm that the speakers in their KI 2 cabinet are 4 ohm speakers.

Another thing, this are connected in parallel which makes for a 2 ohm load. Is this dangerous for the board?

Thanks!

Even without looking I can say that they should be 8 OHM, If there are 4 OHM in there then they were most likely replaced. Someone probably decided that they wanted it to be louder and this was their way of getting that to happen (additional wattage output due to lower ohms). You are correct in assuming a 2 OHM load is probably going to damage the amp at some point. If it were me I would correct it.

Thanks, yeah that's what I figured. I could connect them in series and get an 8 ohm load(since KI's sound is mono) but I would still think that 4 ohms(the two 8 ohm speakers in parallel) is how it was originally wired would be optimal.

Am I correct anyone who would know that these are 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 inch speakers?

Thanks again!

BTW, I see why these may have been replace with 4 ohm...finding 8 ohm speakers in this size is turning out to be pretty difficult.

wire the two 4 ohm speakers in series. 8 ohms.....

That's what I'm thinking I should do....I'm assuming 8 ohms would be safer for the KI PCB than the 4 Ohm that it comes from the factory as(2x 8 ohm speakers connected in parallel = 4 ohms)

So the question is, is it safer for the KI boards to be running at 2 ohms or 8 ohms(4 ohms is default from factory)

8 would be "safer" but 2 is only going to be a problem if you have the volume cranked. Even sitting idle at a 2 ohm load the AMP IC will be fine.

BTW, WMS/Midway wired the speakers in that cabinet out of phase. DROVE ME MENTAL when I would walk by one and hear the weak ass bass coming from the cab. Give yourself an audio treat and wire those speakers in phase! That cabinet has some great bass response with the right audio signal.

That said, wire the speakers in series. You dont need to buy new speakers.

Thanks man, awesome;) Man, totally! I definitely noticed the weak ass bass. Since full range high quality 4 ohm speakers are so cheap and plentiful I can get a definite sound upgrade for pretty cheap and wire them in series. The awesome music/sound in this game warrants a good speaker upgrade IMO. Again, dude perfect reply...thanks for putting my mind at ease.

from the Killer Instinct manual.

Thank you very much but....Good God man, read the posts first lmao;) I said in my first post that I saw the manual had 8 ohm speakers listed(I have a copy). Thank you for trying to help/replying, sincerely.
