Killer Instinct 1 and 2 come up in what appears to be VGA or EGA mode using the 1940-in-1 ...

... unfortunately these two games (of course) are the top two games he asked if the damn system included...

Anyone know how I can force CGA mode with those two games?

Currently, it drops to VGA or EGA mode...doubles the image (out of sync) ...and requires a reboot to get back to CGA mode.

Thanks!

That's pretty weird, because the original games work on a regular cga monitor! It must be a tweak added later by the pirates.

I'm running mine in cga on my 25 inch WellsGardner I have my video in NTSC mode in the Video setup. I have the 2.8G version. I even made my own skin for as seen here.

I have to run mine in PAL mode or I get a "smear" across the top of the screen... but in PAL mode I can adjust the 50/60 and get a nice screen...

All other games that I've tried (CPSI, CPSII, hell, even verticals) all came up proper... only KI and KI2 do this...

I am uploading a YOUTUBE video as I write this.

Have you tried this with the 3n4 player connector board connected.
1. turn on bit4 on SW2
2. press the video button until you have the voice say PAL.
3. turn off bit4 on switch2.

Now
1. turn on bit4 of SW2 again.
2. press setup button on 3n4 player connector
3. select video mode with joystick and press 1player button.
4. select pal using joystick and press 1 player button twice to lock in.
5. move down to back to menu and press 1 player button once
6. move to exit using joystick and press 1 player button
7. turn off bit4 on SW2

No help unfortunately.

Once I go in to KI or KI2... the button that changes modes stops working... I can hear "SVGA... VGA... NTSC... PAL..." in the background but the image on screen does nothing different... it stays double image like in the video.

Once I go back to the menu... the double image (VGA mode?) is still in effect but now the button works and I can change to the different graphics modes as normal and back to PAL...

??!??!

my 1917 in 1 does the same thing also. now, my 1315 in 1 HD is fine. so i'm gonna do some tinkering to see if i can pull the needed files from 1 to the other to fix the prob. just got a ton of other projects ahead of it......lol

If you figure it out... lemme know. If it's just a regular ole MAME there is likely a resolution configuration file on the HD somewhere.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I ask as my customer isn't too keen on the fact that the two games at the top of his "Does it include?" list that I said "YES" to do not work.

I followed the instructions from Darth with no success.

It's very strange... inside the game (KI or KI2) even with the DIP4 set I can't change resolutions... but once I go back to the menu (still in VGA mode and double screened/out of sync), I can switch switch resolutions and get it back to where it shows on screen as normal.... but again, go back in to KI or KI2 and it switches resolutions again.

:(

Did you ever figure this out? I have a 1940 in 1 board I just purchased that is doing exactly the same thing with the smear on the top of the screen with a k7000 and the changing of the resolution. Actually you're a step ahead of me because only KI2 works and KI1 goes right back to the menu after it loads 1/2 way. This board is so maddening.

One more question. Do you hook up an IDE cable between your button board with the setup, video etc on it? Mine isn't working and the diagrams aren't really clear to me.

This sounds like the same exact problem I'm having, but it was with the entire board. From the loading start all the way through. Although I only tried with Street Fighter II and just thought that my KG7000 wasn't taking a liking to my xxxxx-in-1 board.

I've done everything with the set up fingerboard through all of the PAL-VGA etc etc to no solution.

Also the whole picture doesn't fit right, as to where I can't stretch out the screen all the way to the ends.

My co-worker had a similar problem with his he got from jammaboards, but was able to do something to get it to work. He is at a wedding this weekend, but I will ask him monday.

Change to PAL mode...

Adjust the 50/60 pot on the K7000 chassis (far left pot facing UPWARD behind and a little to the left of the last vertical facing pot)...

Adjust the screen size...

You're golden.

I've done that. Does it fix killer instinct going to split screen also?

Nope... that is a configuration issue with the 1917-in-1 boards. They are dropping KI and KI2 in to VGA mode... I am sure you could dick around with the .ini file to get it right.
