I bought a gauntlet and the coin doors are unlocked and the bottom one are not. So inorder to restore I need to open them. So do all keys work in all machines? Anyone have advice on how to open them? Call a locksmith? Any advice would be great.

You can also pick the locks, most video game locks are pretty crummy and easy to pick. But, if you've never done that before, just drill them out. Use a 1/4" drill bit and drill right in the center of the lock, straight in.

Once you've got the coin doors open, you can buy new locks at the hardware store, complete with keys. They're inexpensive, about $6 or so.

You say the coin doors are unlocked, but the bottom doors aren't? Can you reach down into them? If so, you can disassemble the lock from the inside to get them open.

If you can't do that, can you open the back door? If you can open the back, you may be able to reach through to the front and disassemble the latch.

If that doesn't work, picking or drilling is your best bet. You've always wanted to learn to pick locks anyway, right?

I doubt you can get to these locks from the back. Gauntlet uses over/under style coin doors, and the coin box area is usually enclosed in a metal box. Worth checking, but at the same time, I'm 99% sure he's going to have to drill it.

Drilling locks is easy. Usually takes less than a minute.

thanks I will try and drill them out.
No you cant get in there from the coin slots but the plastic buckets are in and they make it tight. You can not access from the back as it is a wooden encased box. if you have a Gauntlet you know what I mean.

If you have more than a couple of games, think about ordering a pile of locks all keyed alike (I get mine from Twisted Quarter). There is nothing more frustrating than sitting with a huge pile of keys fumbling to find the right one to unlock a coin door. Almost all of mine use the same key on all the locks so as long as I can find 1 key, I'm into just about every cabinet.

PS. While you can find cabinet locks at Lowe's and Home Depot, it is very hard to find more than a couple of sets that are keyed alike.

Gauntlet has like 6 darn locks to it and I need to buy all 6. Are these 7/8"?

Well maybe that's what I need to do. These I'm looking at on Ebay won't fit the doors too well I think, but 6 of them for 3.50 and 7.00 shipping. Not bad. But I'm sure the auction isn't over for another 6 days.
I'll just order them the 'for-sure' way.

I've bought the locks from arcadeadventure and they work great. Can't beat the shipping either.
