Kennywood Park - What were you thinking?

Thanks for sharing the pics, nice to see some classic games in the wild, some look like they need repairs though.

I saw a couple of documentaries on Kennywood and they love old rides and old stuff...it's too bad they don't fix these tho...

Kennywood has lost some of its charm to me since the original owners sold out to the group which is based out of Europe I believe...they removed some of the older rides and landmarks inside the park and it doesn't have the feel to me that it did when I was younger...IMO.

I'm just counting down until their Garfield contact runs out...then maybe the Old Mill will live again.

PR guy tells me they still have all of those games they were talking about letting go too..just sitting in a warehouse. They don't want to sell much of anything.

Those games are gone. They had a fire sale after they closed the pladium arcade. That's where I got my first arcades that started my collection. It still makes me smile knowing that these were the exact games I played growing up.

I no longer work there but the only things that were still stored were a few rows a skeeball and loads of the rolla ball bingo machines. These were stored in the old Kmart that they have since torn down. So I doubt they still have these stored.

Almost all their games now are rented through Betson with the exeption of the older ones

I am from Pittsburgh. I used to go to Kennywood as a kid, and went there last in 2003. I have a photo of myself standing next to that very Space Invaders.

Look.. I'm workin' on the Night Driver, but our Cat Box is down with a bad 6532A and I get nothing but a watchdog, so if anyone has any hints...

Just got a buttload of cap kits in from Bob Roberts too, but I was able to adjust that Simpsons out pretty well. Just did the Asteroids too, you can see it from about half way across the arcade now. lol. It was an impressive turnaround.

Wait?! Someone is maintaining the games now?!? Sweet. Please put that Street Fighter/Tekken/Mk out of its misery.

Can't recall a time when there hasn't been. Let's see what you guys can do with $0.

Take a look at other parks and see how well their classics work.

I was at Kennywood yesterday and I must say, I was quite surprised at how much of a difference there was from last year to this year in the arcade. All the monitors looked good! Coin switches seemed to be working too! (nothing ate quarters this year) I even got to put up the top score on their Donkey Kong!

The arcade was getting a little action while I was there too! TMNT had people playing the whole time. Pacman was pretty popular too! People were actually playing the MK with SF2 in it. All I could do was wonder how the MK side art looks under the paint!

I played DK the whole time while my wife cleaned out the big choice cranes... (Took home a dozen spongebobs... Guess we will put them in our big choice lol)

Here is a question for you, since I played DK the whole time... When you find a game on location that you have at home, do you find yourself playing it on location for fun?

Anyway I was impressed by the Kennywood arcade today. Kudos to whoever is now maintaining those games!

cedar point ohio

looks nice, thanks for sharing. my last experience with games in the wild was cedar point amusement park. cp arcade had many games with the out of order sign on them. I will be at cedar point next week and will check out the arcade again. would love to check out kennywood someday.
as for playing games in the wild I like to break some high scores here and there, but I can barely play an arcade for 30 minutes without the back starting to bother me. don't know how I would stand all day in the arcades bitd.

Anyone been there over the last few weekends? Might go today, curious if the arcade is open or closed to prep for the fright nights.

Arcade has been closed for a couple of weeks now.

In case anyone was wondering (noone was) the love pilot and the magic chair sitting with the rest of the older stuff up top are working great. Peppy, however, is hurting a little... lol

Was not wondering, but glad to hear they work. Probably wouldn't work long down on the floor.

How much of that arcade gets cleared out each year? Games just go into storage or pushed to the side somewhere? Looked pretty empty back there during the winter too.

I have no doubt they'd run fine down on the floor. I just ran them for shits and giggles and everything fired right up after how many years.

Prolly about 5 big games that get crammed behind the maze because they're too much of a pain, everything else gets cleared out.

I was wondering if you guys had the same budget as Cedar Point does. And any of the stuff to fix the games is just as old.
