Ken Layton has passed away

OMG, this is crazy :cry: I actually am such a rookie in this industry still, that while reading this thread, I didn't know who ken was..so I thought. Then I seen the "Ken's Corner" thing that @parism posted and seen the avatar/pic.. and I was like, Oh that dude ! I was on some other site and he popped in to help me, and then several times here in the monitor section I seen his threads/posts helping, and used several of his posts since I been here for knowledge.

My prayers and blessing go out to family and friends, and I'm pouring some Cognac for Ken (and myself) now. Guess God can have all his monitors fixed properly finally. He will like that.

I'm not a member here, but just want to say I am touched by all the comments on forum regarding my brother's passing. Ken Layton, my older brother, was 66 years old, passed peacefully in his sleep, from covid. I don't think he knew he had it; he was as stubborn about going to doctors as our dad was. He was super smart, all self taught, book taught, and internet taught, and probably learned from the many, many people he talked to, or communicated with via the internet. Here is the link to Ken's obituary: https://funeralalternatives.org/tribute/details/230326/Kenneth-Layton/obituary.html#tribute-start

I just saw this thread and am so sad to hear this. I feel like every technical issue I've had that required searching the Internet for a solution, tossed me to a forum thread that featured Ken giving friendly and extremely helpful advice.

My family sends their condolences.

I hope someone points her here too. I would think it would be appreciated.

I already posted on Pinside but wanted to say something here too. Ken was amazing and his prolific posts on every arcade subject you can imagine helped me out as recently as yesterday... and I know that won't be the last time, either. RIP to one of the all-time greats.

This is very sad to hear. Ken helped me out a lot with the Arachnid machines and was always very knowledgable with them. I always turned to his manuals when he had them online. RIP Ken

Wow! I am not active on these forums as I once was and logged in today and see this... Very, very sad. I hosted Ken's Korner for several years and he provided quite a treasure trove of repair/troubleshooting documentation. There must be an old link somewhere on these forums because I get requests every couple of weeks. In an effort to help Ken's knowledge live on here is an updated link to Ken's Korner...

RIP Ken.

Thanks for doing this Mike! I had previously looked up some info on K4600 cards and used the Wayback Machine to access it. I have bookmarked your link.

Ken's legacy will live on!

also, if you want to just download ALL of ken's korner's files in one go, enjoy this 35mb zip file (backed up on 5/26/2021):

Same here, I've been MIA for a few years raising my own family and building a home. Now that I'm back, it was inevitable to fall upon this. The wealth of his knowledge was literally incredible

RIP Ken

Wow. Sadness.

I've been away doing other stuff and not active here for several years. Just searched for something posted by Ken and saw the "In memoriam" by his name, and then found this thread.

Although I never met him in person, Ken was always super polite and very helpful the times I was lucky enough for him to chime in on one of my threads.

He helped me with monitor issues, and with my jukebox after I picked up one of those a few years back.

Just wanted to throw mine onto this huge pile of gratitude and thanks for all the little things Ken did to help others out and share his knowledge.

I remember DarrenF. Welcome back. Hope you stick around.

Goes to show how fast time goes by.... I thought I had just talked to him - "couldn't have been more than a few months ago........"

I recently picked up a System 11 pin and not an expert in pins by any means. I was wondering why I couldn't turn the volume down and found a thread on Pinside where Ken gave the answer (removing a resistor). Just another instance where I had a question and he had the answer.
